Daigu town

Daiguzhen is a famous town in Qilu. It is located in the hinterland of Yimeng Mountain Area in the north of Linyi City, Shandong Province. It is the core of daigu landform, the fifth largest landform in China. It enjoys the reputation of "the first village in the world". In 2019, the United Nations awarded Yimeng Mountain daigu park the title of World Geopark.

Daigu is a special geological structure formed by hundreds of millions of years of geological evolution, which is a rare non renewable resource. On November 9, 1943, the Japanese aggressors gathered more than 10000 troops and began to clean up the Anti Japanese base in central Shandong. In order to smash the Japanese's attempt to clean up, the central Shandong Military Region decided to leave a small number of troops to fight on the internal lines, contain the enemy, and turn the main forces to the external lines to annihilate the enemy. In order to trap and attract the main force of the enemy and delay the action of the enemy, 93 warriors from the Third Battalion and eighth company of the 11th regiment of the Second Army division of the central Shandong military region were ordered to garrison in Nanbei daigu on the 10th.

On the 13th, the Japanese puppet army began to launch a fierce attack on daigu. The Japanese invaders and traitors rushed to daigu like wolves. Most of the devils were beaten by my brave soldiers before they could fight back. They rolled back down the mountain. The enemy's first attack was thus defeated.

How can the arrogant devil give up after such a loss? Since the 17th, the enemy has mobilized a large number of troops and concentrated planes and artillery to bombard daigu in the north and the south, and then launched a fierce ground attack. The two sides fought fiercely for several days, and the devil was always blocked by the soldiers of the eighth company under the cliff. The angry enemy dispatched more than 2000 troops to encircle daigu and bombard him fiercely. The officers and soldiers resisted stubbornly. When they ran out of grenades and bullets, they hit him with stones. In this way, the officers and men of the eighth company vowed to live and die together with their positions. They held on to daigu for 18 days. At a small cost of injuring seven people and sacrificing two, they won a huge victory of holding down more than 2000 enemy people and killing more than 300 enemy people. After the war, the brave and indomitable eighth company was awarded by Shandong military region of the Eighth Route Army and won the glorious title of "daigu company".
