Pengwan Township, subordinate to Guixi City, Jiangxi Province, is located in the southwest of Guixi City, with Shangqing town in the south, Tangwan town in the East, Tianlu in the West and jiaoluo River in the north, covering an area of about 65 square kilometers. By the end of 2019, pengwan township has 5 administrative villages, 107 village groups, 3072 households and more than 13000 population.

Historical evolution

Before the founding of new China, it belonged to Xiaoling township.

In 1951, it belonged to Xiaoling, Madi, Baimiao and other townships.

In 1958, it was part of Gaofeng commune.

In 1961, it belonged to Huamen, Xingming and pengwan brigades of Datian commune and Shangqing commune, Baimiao and Meixi brigades.

In 1964, it belonged to Xiaoling, Meixi brigade of Shangqing commune and Baimiao reservoir aquaculture farm.

In 1968, it belonged to Xiaoling and Meixi brigades of Shangqing commune and Lianhe, pengwan and Xingming brigades of Xintian commune.

In 1972, pengwan commune was established.

In 1984, it was renamed pengwan township.

Pengwan township is located in the southwest of Guixi City, connecting Shangqing town in the south, Tangwan town in the East, Tianlu in the West and jiaoluo River in the north, covering an area of about 65 square kilometers.

The terrain of pengwan Township inclines from southwest to northeast. Except for a small part of the semi mountainous area, the rest is hilly valley. Zenggailing on the southwest border is the highest, with an altitude of 541 meters; X northeast Huamen is the lowest, with an altitude of 58 meters. Wanggu stream originated from Yingtian mountain is located in Huamen border.

It is one of the main forest areas in Guixi City. The soil belongs to red soil and paddy soil. The mineral deposits include granite, potash feldspar, uranium, etc. Baimiao Reservoir Scenic Area and Yingtian mountain scenic area have high development and utilization value.

History and culture

Pengwan township is the birthplace of Xiangshan Culture. According to historical records, the earliest "Xiangshan thatched cottage" is located on the jitouyuan mountain in zengwan, Xiaoling village, pengwan township (belonging to the Yingtian mountain range, located in the north of Yingtian mountain). In 1187, Lu Jiuyuan first gave lectures here and later moved to Yingtian mountain.

Pengwan township is also the base of Taoism culture. Zhang liusun, the leader of Taoism and founder of metaphysics in the Yuan Dynasty, was born and buried in Nanshan, Xiyuan village, pengwan township. Zhang liusun's tomb has been listed in the provincial cultural relics protection.
