Muyang town was named Miao Yang in the Song Dynasty. Later, it was changed to its present name because of homophony, implying harmony and warmth. In 1949, it was the Fourth District Office. In September 1958, Muyang commune was established. In 1980, Muyang commune was divided into Muyang town. In June 2020, Muyang town has jurisdiction over 6 communities and 2 administrative villages.
