Tufang town

Tufang town is located in Changting County, Longyan City, Fujian Province. In ancient times, tufang was named shangpingli, also known as Danxi. As early as in the second Civil Revolutionary War, tufang became the center of the red political power in Changting and Liancheng counties. The name of Hongfang village, the current administrative village, originated from that time. Located in the south of Changting, Liancheng County in the East and Shanghang County in the south, it is one of the birthplaces of Hakka in Jiangsu Province.

In 2019, the town governs 15 administrative villages, covering an area of 166.9 square kilometers, with 16320 mu of cultivated land and 208000 mu of woodland, with a total population of 30605.

Historical evolution

The seventh district was established in 1949, Hongfang commune was established in 1958, Nanshan commune was incorporated in 1960, tufang commune was established in 1961, and tufang township was changed in 1984. In 1997, with an area of 166.7 square kilometers and a population of 27000, it has jurisdiction over 15 village committees in Jingkou, Mawu, Laifang, tufang, Hongfang, Xiyuan, Hepu, cikeng, qiukeng, yangkeng, luowugang, yuankeng, Zhonghua, wukeng and bianling. At the end of 1997, the provincial and municipal governments approved the abolition of tufang Township and the establishment of tufang town.

Tu Fang town was an important part of the Soviet Area during the second domestic revolutionary war. It was awarded the honorable title of the "second model area" by the Soviet Union. The county Soviet was once located in Laifang village of tufang, and the three natural villages of Zhonghua village, huangjiaying, anbeitou and caotan, were the revolutionary base villages. The "Weiwu group" located in Hongfang village and Yongding Tulou are the most typical Hakka buildings. In southern provinces, the people named after Weiwu group are related to this. Many international friends have come to tufang for investigation, which has attracted the attention of international academic circles. Far East Institute of France takes this place as a typical case of anthropological research.
