Zhangpu County is located in the south coast of Fujian Province. The geographical coordinates are 23 ° 43 ′ - 24 ° 21 ′ N and 117 ° 24 ′ - 118 ° 02 ′ E. The total area is 2130.8 square kilometers.

Historical evolution
Zhangzhou was set up in 686, the second year of chuigong in Tang Dynasty, with Zhangpu and Huaien counties; in 716, the State Department moved from the southern foot of Pantuoling to Li aochuan (now Zhangpu County); in 741, Huaien county was merged into Zhangpu County; from 742, the first year of Tianbao to 759, Zhangzhou was changed into Zhangpu County; in 786, Longxi (now Zhangzhou City) was moved. After the Yuan Dynasty, the calendar belonged to Zhangzhou Road, Zhangzhou mansion and Xilu Road (tingzhang Road). Liberated on September 25, 1949, it belongs to Longxi district (region) and Zhangzhou city.
In October 1949, the county was divided into seven districts.
In 1950, the eighth district was added in Wujiang; in 1951, the ninth and tenth districts were added in Shentu and Huxi respectively; in 1952, the eleventh and twelfth districts were added in Changqiao and Shaxi respectively. So far, there are 12 districts in the whole county, with jurisdiction over 6 towns and 135 townships.
In September 1955, districts 11 and 12 were abolished. In December of the same year, 28 villages in 6 townships of Gulei District of Dongshan County were under the jurisdiction of Zhangpu County. The county is divided into 11 districts, namely Chengguan, pomegranate, guanxun, Jiuzhen, Futan, Chihu, duxun, Wujiang, Shentu, Huxi and Gulei, with jurisdiction over 6 towns and 170 townships.
In October 1956, Wujiang district and Huxi district were abolished, and Chengguan District was changed into Chengguan Town (County town). The county governs 1 town, 8 districts, 5 township level towns and 91 townships.
In December 1957, the government office of guanxun District moved to Changqiao, which was renamed Changqiao district. County township (town) adjusted to 102 townships and 5 towns (township level).
In March 1958, the system of district and county towns was abolished, and the whole county was merged into 53 townships (towns). In September 1958, the township system was abolished, and the people's communes integrating government and society were successively established. There are 10 communes in Chengguan, Shiliu, Wujiang, duxun, Changqiao, Shentu, Chiling, Futan, Jiuzhen and Chihu, Changqiao farm, baizhuhu farm and Zhongxi forest farm.
In May 1960, Wujiang commune was abolished and merged into Jiuzhen commune. There are only nine communes in the county.
In July 1961, the county was divided into 26 communes and 3 farms.
In September 1964, the original 26 communes were merged into 18 communes, namely Chengguan, Shiliu, Changqiao, Nanpu, Chiling, Huxi, Futan, qianting, Chihu, Shentu, liuao, Jiuzhen, Xiamei, Chitu, duxun, Shaxi, Gulei and Wan'an; the original three farms were changed into four farms, namely dananban, shigu, Changqiao and baizhuhu; the two forest farms, Zhongxi and Xiacai; and the Daimao mountain Tea farm, Zhuyu salt farm.
In March 1978, ten production teams were set up from pomegranate commune to establish pantuo commune.
In September 1980, five agricultural production teams and one resident team were set up from Chengguan commune, and Chengguan Town (changed to sui'an town in March 1982) was established as a town directly under the county.
In the second half of 1984, the government and society were separated. The original people's commune was changed into a township (town), and the original production brigade into a village. There are three towns in Suian, Fotan and Jiuzhen, and 16 townships in Chengguan, Shiliu, pantuo, Changqiao, Nanpu, Chitu, duxun, Shaxi, Gulei, Xiamei, Shentu, liuao, Chihu, qianting, Chiling and Huxi (among them, Chiling and Huxi are she townships).
In May 1985, guanxun neighborhood committee and eight villages were set up from Changqiao township. In May 1987, six villages were set up in Fotan town.
In May 1988, Chengguan Township was abolished and merged into Suian town; duxun and Chihu townships were changed into towns. In December 1989, Xiamei and guanxun were changed into towns.
In 1990, Zhangpu County had jurisdiction over 7 towns (sui'an, Fotan, Chihu, Jiuzhen, duxun, Xiamei, guanxun), 13 townships (Shiliu, Changqiao, Nanpu, qianting, Shentu, liuao, Chitu, Shaxi, Gulei, pantuo, Maping, Huxi (she) and Chiling (she)), 7 neighborhood committees and 279 villages.
