Merrill Street

Meilin street is located in the north of Nan'an City, bordering Kangmei town in the northeast, Fengzhou town in the East, Ximei across the river in the southwest, and Luncang, Meishan and Shengxin towns in the northwest. The street has a total area of 59.1 square kilometers and a population of 75050 (2010). The population density is 1389.8 per square kilometer.

Historical evolution

The place name of Meilin comes from the Kaiping period of Liang Dynasty. Wang Shenzhi came to Fujian and Nan'an county set up a horse farm in Meilin. It is a natural pasture for raising horses, so it is called "Malin", and later it is called "Meilin" (still called "Malin" in Minnan dialect). On the other hand, in the Five Dynasties, the Huang family moved here from malinqi in Luodong to reclaim wasteland, which is called Malin.
