Gongchuan, formerly known as Gongpu, is located in the north of Yong'an City. It was opened in the Tang Dynasty and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It borders Sanming in the north, 12 kilometers from the urban area in the south, surrounded by Shaxi River, and traversed by Yingxia railway and national highway 205. The interchange of Quanzhou Sanming expressway is 12 kilometers from the market town. It has 15 administrative villages and 1 neighborhood committee. In 2017, it has an administrative area of 13697 hectares and a permanent population of 8881.

The territory is rich in Gongji, fruits and vegetables, bamboo shoots and other famous products. It is the first town of Gongji in China, a provincial historical and cultural town, a provincial garden town, a provincial town with beautiful environment and a key industrial town in Sanming City.

In January 2019, Gongchuan town was selected as the seventh batch of famous historical and cultural towns in China.

Human history

Gongchuan has a long history. Its ancient name is Gongbao. It has a history of 1269 years (Gongchuan first and Yongan later). There are many cultural relics and historic sites in Gongchuan. The main tribute chicken varieties are Sanhuang, Maji, yongangong, Tuma and Wugu chicken. In 2004, relying on Rongyan company, A04 new broiler varieties were successfully bred.
