Zhaotan town

Zhaotan Town, a town under the jurisdiction of Dongzhi County, Chizhou City, Anhui Province, is located in the south of Dongzhi County, 54 kilometers away from Dongzhi County. Zhaotan town is adjacent to Nixi town in the East and North, Longquan town in the South and Qingshan Township in the West. It is said that the site of the town was named after Xiao Tong, Prince of Liang Zhaoming, who was fishing here. Zhaotan town governs 8 administrative villages and 139 villager groups. The terrain is high in the north and low in the south, and low between East and West. It is an important commodity grain base in China and the main grain and oil production area in Dongzhi County. It is also the main breeding base of high quality cotton and hybrid rice in Dongzhi County. S222 provincial highway passes through the town.

The origin of naming

Zhaotan town is named after zhaotan street. Zhaotan street was formerly known as Maopeng street, and later it was renamed zhaotan street by the zhaotan stream beside the street. According to legend, zhaotan river was named after the fishing of Xiao Tong, Prince of Liang Zhaoming.

Division evolution

Before liberation, it was the Fifth District of Zhide county. In 1952, it was changed into zhaotan district. In 1958, it was withdrawn and three communes of zhaotan, Hexi and Qingshan were established. In 1960, the three communes merged into zhaotan commune. In August 1961, zhaotan district was rebuilt. In 1969, zhaotan district was withdrawn to establish Yongfeng, Dongsheng and Qingshan communes. In 1972, zhaotan commune was separated from Yongfeng to establish zhaotan commune. In 1982, zhaotan township was restored during the system reform. In 1992, zhaotan town was established by merging with Yongfeng in Anhui Province.
