Historical evolution
Xinmaqiao is named after the first three characters of xinmaqiao station. In the early Ming Dynasty, a wooden bridge was built on the East River of yumiaopu to communicate with horses, which was called Maqiao. It was soon destroyed by floods. In the 24th year of Hongwu, a stone bridge was built on the original foundation, which was renamed Xuma bridge. Later, it was submerged by the flood (the bridge still exists today). In order to avoid flooding, the bridge (wooden) was rebuilt 9.3km west of Xuma bridge, named Xinqiao (old Xinqiao). After Jinpu line was opened to traffic in 1911, a station was built in xinmaqiao, named after the new bridge in the West (Xinqiao station set up in 1920). In 1923, the station was renamed xinmaqiao station after Xu Maqiao and Xinqiao because of the same name of the station near Shanghai. Xinmaqiao set got its name from this, and its name is still in use today. In 1931, the town was under the jurisdiction of xinmaqiao joint protection in Naner District of Lingbi county (District Office in lianchengji). In 1945, xinmaqiao joint protection was changed to xinmaqiao township. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, xinmaqiao commune was established, which was composed of xinmaqiao and Ludu in 1958. It was changed into FeiGuang commune in 1959, xinmaqiao commune was established in 1962, and xinmaqiao township was established in 1983. When the district was withdrawn and merged with the township in 1992, xinmaqiao town was established by merging weidian and Renheji townships.
