Meiqi township is located in the southeast of Jingning County, Zhejiang Province, adjacent to Xiayang Township, Wencheng County, Wenzhou City in the East, Dongkeng Town in the south, Hexi Town in the west, Bohai Town, Zhengkeng Township and Jinzhong Township in the north. With a total area of 86.7 square kilometers, the township governs five administrative villages, with a cultivated area of 2694 mu, including 2366 mu of paddy field, 378 mu of dry land, and 0.66 mu of cultivated land per capita. The township government is located in Meiqi village.

Evolution of organizational system
Meiqi Township belongs to the three capitals of Qing Dynasty. In 1932, the township level political power was established. In March 1936, Liu Dayun, Secretary of the action committee of the first column of the advancing division, developed party members in Meiqi township. The first underground Party branch of the county was built in Guiyuan administrative village of Meiqi township. Because there are many plum trees on both sides of the river, it was named Meixi Township in 1949, and the Meixi township government was established in July 1949. In October 1952, it was renamed Meiqi. In January 1951, it was assigned to Dongkeng district. In July 1957, it was assigned to the urban area. In September 1958, it was renamed the management area. In September 1961, it was rebuilt into the people's commune.

Climatic environment
The climate in the territory belongs to the type of mid subtropical monsoon climate, with four distinct seasons and abundant rainfall. The annual average temperature is 15.6 ℃, the highest temperature is July, with an average of 26.3 ℃, and the lowest temperature is one month, with an average of 4.3 ℃. The annual precipitation is 1530.6 mm and the number of precipitation days is 135 days. The annual solar radiation is 101 kcal / cm2, the annual sunshine hours is 1755 hours, and the annual frost free period is 223 days.
natural resources
There are 86852 mu of mountain forest in the township, 21 mu of mountain forest per capita, including 8577 mu of Phyllostachys pubescens forest (2.1 mu per capita), 6800 mu of ecological public welfare forest, with a forest coverage rate of 85.7%, ranking fifth in the county. Within the township, there are 6 small hydropower stations (including one under construction), with an installed capacity of 3595 kW. Among them, one township run power station (Hongqi power station) was built in 1971 with a capacity of 150 kW. In 1999, 325 kW was leased for technical renovation. One township run forest farm (built in 1971) covers an area of more than 1200 Mu and is a base forest of Chinese fir and pine.
County drinking water head town. Since May 18, 2006, Meiqi township has become a source protection town for drinking water of county residents. Longtanqiao reservoir of sanzhishu hydropower station is built at the foot of the mountain of GangLou administrative village, Meiqi township. It is the tributary of Meiqi, LiuQian, gaoshuan, Dongtou and GangLou administrative villages in Meiqi township. A weir is built in Dongtou administrative village to intercept the water. A culvert (2600m) is used to divert water to longtanqiao reservoir.
Honors
In November 2020, it will be selected into the list of pilot construction townships (towns) of national forest health base in 2020.
