Xietang town

Xietang town is located in the northeast of Shangyu District, Shaoxing City, adjacent to Gaibei town in the north, Xiaoyue town in the south, Songxia town in the west, and huangjiabu town in Yuyao City, Ningbo City in the East. Biangai, yuexie and songxie highways run through the whole area, 9km away from Shangyu City and 6km away from Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway. Xie an, the great Fu of Jin Dynasty, once lived and did business here. His descendants also settled here and raised money to build a dike along xiagai lake to resist the tide. He named it xiejiatang. The town got its name from the pond, and later generations referred to it as Xietang. With a total area of 24.4 square kilometers (2017), the town governs 14 administrative villages and 1 neighborhood committee, with a permanent population of 24787 (2017) and a foreign population of more than 7000.

The origin of the name

Xietang town is located in Shangyu District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province.

It is said that the descendants of Xie Lingyun, a famous poet of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and Xie Huilian, a younger brother of his family, moved here from shangpudong mountain because they liked the pleasant scenery and beautiful environment. They also recruited people to build a long pond in xiagaihu lake to resist the tide. Xie's family lived along the pond. The town got its name because of the pond, so it is called xiejiatang for short. Most of the people with the surname Xie who lived in Xietang were descendants of Xie an, the Prime Minister of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. There was a time when people in Xietang changed the name of Xietang town to Huiling town in memory of their ancestors.

Xietang is such a beautiful and talented place. It is located in the northeast of Shangyu, bordering Hangzhou Bay in the north, Yuyao in the East and Songxia in the West. Yuejueshu records: "Yu shiye, concerned about the people and saving people, went to Dayue and went to Maoshan..." He observed the trend of sea tide day and night in "Houhai" (xiagaishan is called Houhai in history, corresponding to today's Lihai, i.e. Qianhai), and made defensive measures according to local conditions. In addition, Xietang is also a water chestnut production base in Shangyu District, with a planting area of 2400 Mu and an annual output of 5500 tons. There are many rivers and lakes in Xietang Town, which provide a natural market for duck breeding. The town has sold more than 500000 commercial ducks annually, and has registered one "Yufeng" brand trademark. Xietang wuxianggan is made by traditional technology. It has unique taste and is deeply loved by consumers.
