Baisha Road Street

Baisha road street, founded on July 8, 2008, is one of the three main streets in Cixi downtown area and the residence of Cixi Municipal People's government. Baisha road street is the new urban area of Cixi, including Cixi cultural and business district.

Historical evolution

Baisha road street was formerly known as Hushan town. In Song Dynasty, Meishan village was set up in the southwest of Baisha road. In Yuan Dynasty, Meishan department was changed. The original Hushan city was built in 1387, the 20th year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty. The whole city is about half kilometers from east to west and from north to south. The main street is 3 meters wide. In the following 500 years, there was little change in the urban area. By 1949, the city was built with an area of only 0.34 square kilometers and a population of less than 5000. Since it became the resident of Cixi County People's Government in 1954, the population has increased year by year and the appearance of the city has been constantly improved. Since 1970, all streets have been widened and rebuilt. The main streets in the east-west direction, Jiefang street, and Nanmen Street in the north-south direction, are 10 to 12 meters wide. Four new ring roads, shuimen Road, Sishan Road, and Youth Palace Road are built, all of which are more than 12 meters wide. In 1978, a new Second Ring Road was built, increasing the main streets of the city to more than 20 kilometers. The narrow South Ring Road was widened to 40 meters wide. By 1990, the area of the built-up area had expanded to 6 square kilometers, 18 times that of the old city. In May 1992, Baisha Town and Tiandong Township were merged into Hushan town after the withdrawal of districts and expansion of towns. The total area of the town was expanded to 44.29 square kilometers and the total population increased to 110128. In 2000, the built-up area of Hushan town reached 40 square kilometers. In October 2001, the town was removed and streets were set up. In July 2008, the administrative system of the central city was adjusted. The original Hushan street was divided into three new streets: Hushan, Baisha road and Gutang street. Thus, Baisha road street was officially established. The population in 2010 was 82511 (2010 Census).

The total area of Baisha street is 22.566 square kilometers, under the jurisdiction of 18 villages, 3 communities and 1 neighborhood committee.

The 18 villages are: gaohetang, xihuatou, wallI, laiwang, Baisha Road, Baziqiao, Changchun, Wuling bridge, xinhengjiang, Hongjian, Panyu, Qingfang, Erfang, shangzhoutang, houyouche, sandongqiao, Hejiao and Longxing.

The three communities are Qunfeng, Baihe and Baiguoshu.

geographical environment

Baisha road street is located in the northern edge of Ningshao plain in eastern Zhejiang, the South Bank of Hangzhou Bay, and the west of the central part of Cixi City. It is mainly plain, wide in the South and narrow in the north, and looks like boots. The climate is mild and humid, with four distinct seasons. The annual average precipitation is 1260 mm. June is the "plum rain" season. There are occasional typhoons and rainstorms at the turn of summer and autumn. The annual average temperature is 15.8 ℃, and the frost free period is 244 days. The main traffic routes are national highway 329 and Shenglu elevated expressway.
