Shouchang

Shouchang town is located in the southwest of Jiande City, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is a millennium old town in the west of Zhejiang Province and a provincial central town. Before November 1958, shouchang town was the former county government of shouchang county. In April 1992, the former bujiapeng Township and Chen Township were merged into shouchang town. In March 2005, the former shouchang town and the former Tong hometown merged to form the new shouchang town. The administrative area of the town has increased to 143 square kilometers, with 49 administrative villages and 4 communities under its jurisdiction. As of 2005, the total population is 46416.

Historical evolution

Shouchang town is an old market town. Wu of the Three Kingdoms divided Fuchun into Xinchang County and shouchang County in the first year of Taikang (280). This is the name of shouchang. From 756 to 758, shouchang county government moved from baiaili to Wansong town. Since then, it has been governed by shouchang County until it was incorporated into Jiande County in 1958. Wansong town is named after Wansong mountain in the north of the town. In June 1950, there were two townships, Dongmen and Xihu. In July 1951, Chengguan town was established by merging Dongmen Township, Xihu Township and Henan village. During the "great leap forward" period from 1958, it was under the jurisdiction of bujiapeng commune and shouchang commune, but people still used to call the urban area of shouchang county "shouchang". In July 1961, shouchang commune was established in Chengguan town. In January 1981, shouchang commune was established. In April 1992, shouchang, Chenjia and bujiapeng were merged to build a new shouchang town.

Shouchang's industry started at the end of the 19th century. By the end of 2005, there were more than 400 enterprises.
