history
Gongchenqiao area used to be relatively desolate. According to the records of Hangzhou government, "the East and west of the bridge used to be mass graves, and the residents scattered.". After the Sino Japanese War of 1894-1895, the Qing government signed the Treaty of Shimonoseki with the Japanese imperialists. Gongchen bridge was established as a Japanese concession, from Gongchen bridge in the south to wayaotou in the north, through three li in the straight direction and two Li in the horizontal direction. A customs, also known as "inspection wharf", was set up at the shipping port of Gongchen bridge, which was called "Yangguan" by the masses.
At present, three two-story red brick buildings in the northwest corner of the second municipal hospital are the former site of "Yangguan", which became the stronghold of Japanese gendarmes during the Anti Japanese war. Gongchen bridge, a tall and majestic stone bridge with three holes, was built in 1631 A.D. in the fourth year of Chongzhen reign of Ming Dynasty. It is a cultural protection unit in Zhejiang Province. Located in the west of Qiaoxi, "Gaojia garden" is an ancient building of Qing Dynasty, built by Gao Yicheng. It is composed of Nanhua building and Airi building. It is a municipal cultural relic protection site.
