Yaowang town was changed into Yaowang commune at first, and then into township. In 1993, Yaowang township was withdrawn from the township and built into a town. In November 2017, Yaowang town was awarded the fifth national civilized village. In October 2019, Yaowang town was selected as one of the "Top 1000 towns with comprehensive strength in China in 2019". On May 26, 2020, Yaowang town was selected into the list of strong agricultural towns in 2020.
