Longqiu town

Longqiu town is named after the Longqiu village site which represents the prehistoric culture in the east of Jianghuai region. It is located in the northeast of Gaoyou City, adjacent to Sanduo town in the East, Jiejia town in the south, Gaoyou Economic Development Zone in the west, Zhoushan town and Situ Town in the north. It is the back garden of Gaoyou city. It has been awarded the title of national health town and national ecological town

The administrative area of Longqiu town is 76 square kilometers (2017), with a population of 34118 people (2017), and it has jurisdiction over 2 neighborhood committees and 11 village committees. It is a famous town of clothing, aquatic products and culture.

Longqiu culture has a long history. The excavation of the longqiuzhuang site in the area proves that between 7000 and 5000 years ago (early Neolithic Age), there was a primitive culture with unique cultural features and complete cultural series in the Jianghuai River Basin, namely "Longqiu culture". In 1993, the discovery of longqiuzhuang site was rated as one of the "top ten new archaeological discoveries in China". In 1995, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province. In June 2001, it was approved as a national key cultural relic protection unit by the State Council. In 2011, it was rated as the "great archaeological site in Jiangsu Province". Gaoyou longqiuzhuang pottery is known as "the dawn of Chinese civilization"

Each pillar industry has its own characteristics. It governs 26 administrative villages, including Hongzhuang, Minzhu, dashu'an, hengqiao, Yigou, Guanghua, Hongfeng, Tayuan, Chen Zong, bingzhuang, Qiujia, Xianfeng, Shuangmiao, Shuanggou, Tangnan, Nijia, SuZhuang, Tangbei, FOTA, Yijia, Xuwang, Longqiu village, hongma, Hongta, Maduo and Zhongxin. Zhangxuan Township covers an area of 33 square kilometers, With a population of 19000, it governs 19 administrative villages, including Hezhuang, Zhangzhuang, tangdun, Bianyang, Zhangxuan, Guozhuang, Nanjiao, Zhujia, Yuwan, Changjin, Dongjiao, Qiangmin, Youyi, Zhaowang, fishery, Baima, Gaojia, shuangduo and tongdang.

In December 1999, ZHANGXUAN township was abolished and merged into Longqiu town.

In 2003, it has jurisdiction over Fenghuang and Zhangxuan communities and 19 administrative villages including Yigou, Aolin, Shuangmiao, Longcheng, pagoda, Longtan, hongma, Longqiu, Xingnan, Dongjiao, Qiangmin, Xingbei, Zhangxuan, Baima, Youyi, tanggaodun, chenzongbingzhuang, dashuan and Longteng.

In 2008, longqiuzhuang community was abolished and Longqiu community and longqiuzhuang village were established. Aolin and Shuangmiao villages are now managed by Gaoyou economic development zone.
