When they arrived at Mianchi, they met the king of Qin. After a ceremony, they chatted at the banquet and went on a tour of wine. The king of Qin said to the king of Zhao, "I heard that you like the drum and zither. I have zither here. Please play a tune to help the fun." King Zhao did not dare to refuse, so he had to play a song. At this time, the imperial censor of the state of Qin came over and wrote in the bamboo slips: on a certain day and a certain month, the king of Qin and the king of Zhao were having a banquet in Mianchi, and the king of Qin ordered the king of Zhao to play a drum.

Lin Xiangru was not happy to see this and said to the king of Qin, "King Zhao heard that the king of Qin is good at beating fou (earthen pots). I have a fou here. Please knock fou to make everyone happy." The king of Qin was furious and refused to agree. Lin Xiangru took the fou and offered it to the king of Qin, who refused to knock it. Lin Xiangru said: "now I'm only five steps away from the king. If the king doesn't agree, I'll fight to die and splash your blood." It means to fight against the king of Qin.

The bodyguard of the king of Qin saw that the king of Qin was under duress, and hurriedly pulled out his sword to kill Lin Xiangru. Lin Xiangru glared at his eyes and gave a loud drink, which scared the guards back. The king of Qin was very unhappy, so he had to knock on the fou. Lin Xiangru called back the censor of Zhao and wrote down the incident: on a certain day and month, King Zhao and King Qin had a banquet in Mianchi, and King Zhao ordered King Qin to knock fou for fun.

The ministers of the state of Qin saw that the king of Qin did not take advantage of it, so they said, "please give fifteen cities to the king of Zhao to celebrate his birthday!" Lin Xiangru also did not show weakness, said: "please take Xianyang (the capital of Qin, now the east of Xianyang County in Shaanxi Province) to bless the king of Zhao!"

Until the end of the banquet, Lin Xiangru, in order to maintain the dignity of the country, wittily and bravely fought tit for tat and indomitable struggle with the monarchs and ministers of the state of Qin, and defeated the plot of the state of Qin.
