Milestone is a Chinese word, Pinyin is l ǐ ch é NGB ē I, which generally means a fixed sign with numbers carved on the side of the road, usually set up every other section of the road to show its location and distance from a specific destination. Another meaning of milestone refers to a major landmark event, or a typical event of a specific significance, or a major event of pioneering significance, or a recognized event of great academic and theoretical significance.
In the past, the milestone was a stone tablet, but now it is mostly metal plate. There may be milestones on roads, mountain roads and railways. The number on the milestone indicates how far it is from the start or end point. The concept of milestone is used in modern project management, and the project progress is measured by the stage specific deliverable.

Highway origin
Highway origin, also known as road yuanbiao and zero kilometer point, is the marker of the starting point of highway, which is usually used to mark the starting point of highway system in a country or region. The origin of highways in the world is usually the meeting point of multiple highway systems in the capital, but it does not necessarily include expressways.
