The synonym "being good at the world" generally refers to being poor while being good at it, and being good at it while being good at it. "Being poor means being good at it, and being good at it" comes from Mencius, Chapter 9. The original sentence is "if you are poor, you will be good to yourself; if you are successful, you will be good to the world." it means that you should take care of your own moral cultivation when you are not successful. When you are successful, you should try to make everyone in the world get benefits.
Mencius is a collection of Mencius' opinions, which is compiled by Mencius and his disciples. It records Mencius' language, political views (benevolent government, the distinction between the king and the overlord, people-oriented, the difference between the king's heart and the people's respect and contempt) and political actions.
Mencius' experience
Mencius once imitated Confucius and led his disciples around the world. But it was not accepted by other countries at that time. He retired and wrote books with his disciples. According to scholars, he was deeply influenced by Jixia Taoism. Mencius has seven chapters handed down from generation to generation: King Hui of Liang, Gongsun Chou, Teng Wengong, Lilou, wanzhang, Gaozi and Jinxin. The starting point of his theory is the theory of good nature, which puts forward "benevolent government" and "kingly way", and advocates the rule of virtue. In the Southern Song Dynasty, Zhu Xi combined Mencius with the Analects of Confucius, the great learning, and the doctrine of the mean as the "four books". Mencius is the largest and heaviest of the four books, with more than 35000 words. From then on until the end of the Qing Dynasty, "four books" has been the content of the imperial examination.

(1) Mencius said, "he who does his best knows his nature. If you know the nature, you know the heaven. Keep your heart and cultivate your nature, so it's natural. If you live a long life, you should cultivate your moral character and wait for it, so it's time to make a decision. " (2) Mencius said, "is it not the fate that we should obey and accept it; therefore, those who know the fate do not stand under the rock wall?". If the dead do their best, they will have the right life; if they shackle the dead, they will not have the right life. " (3) Mencius said, "if you ask for it, you will get it, if you give up, you will lose it; if you ask for something beneficial, you will get it, and if you ask for something beneficial, you will lose it. To seek Tao and to obtain destiny is to seek those who are not beneficial to gain and those who are outside. " (4) Mencius said, "everything is ready for me. It's a great pleasure to be honest. If you are strong enough to forgive, please do not be near. " (5) Mencius said, "those who do not pay attention to what they do, those who do not pay attention to what they learn, and those who do not know how to do it all their lives." " (14) Mencius said, "benevolent speech is not as deep as benevolent voice, and good governance is not as good as good teaching. Good governance is feared by the people; good education is loved by the people. Good governance leads to people's wealth, and good teaching leads to people's will. " (15) Mencius said, "if a man is able without learning, he has good ability; if he knows without thinking, he has good conscience. As a child, no one knows how to love his relatives, how long he is, and how to respect his brother. To be close is to be benevolent; to respect one's elders is to be righteous; to reach the world without others. " (16) Mencius said, "Shun lived in the deep mountains, lived with wood and stone, and traveled with deer and boars, so he was different from savages in the deep mountains. If he hears a good word and sees a good deed, he will not be able to resist it if he decides on a river. " (21) Mencius said, "the people of all places, the gentleman's desire, the pleasure does not exist; in the world, set the people of the four seas, the gentleman's pleasure, the pleasure does not exist. The nature of a gentleman, though great deeds do not add Yan, although poor living does not damage Yan, it is also divided. It is the nature of a gentleman. Benevolence, righteousness, propriety and wisdom are rooted in the heart. Their color is also natural. It can be seen on the face, on the back and on the four bodies. The four bodies are self-evident. " (22) Mencius said, "Boyi founded Zhou, lived on the coast of the North Sea, heard the work of King Wen, and said," when you come back, I hear that Xibo is good at providing for the aged. The people of King Wen have no old people who are cold and discouraged. This is also called "the old man." (23) Mencius said, "if you change the scope of your land, if you reduce your taxes, you can make your people rich. When you eat, you should use it with courtesy. Money is not worth using. People do not live without water and fire. It is enough to knock on people's door at dusk for water and fire. Sages rule the world, making it as hot as water. Shu Su is like water and fire, but how can the people not be benevolent?
