G ū D ú Gu ā NGU ǎ is a Chinese word, which generally refers to a person who has no one to rely on. It comes from Mencius Liang Hui Wang Xia.

Mencius Liang Hui Wang Xia, written by Mencius Ke in the Warring States Period: "the old without a wife means widower; the old without a husband means widower; the old without a son means alone; the young without a father means orphan; the poor people in the world have no complaint."
