analysis
Buddhism's "putting down the butcher's knife" does not mean the butcher's knife that really kills people. the "butcher's knife" here refers to malice, evil words, evil deeds and all delusions, delusions, confusion, reversal, separation and persistence. there is also arhat, which means killing the thief. Killing the thief does not mean killing the thief. Killing the thief means killing the troubled thief. "Lay down the butcher's knife and become a Buddha on the spot" means to lay down the delusion, separation and persistence, that is Buddha! the essence of "butcher's knife" is "people's confusion about themselves"; people make themselves obsessed, and obsessed with themselves, so talent is the last obstacle to becoming a Buddha; only by transcending people, abandoning people, and no longer being a person, can we become a Buddha.

The history of Buddha
The capital surname of Chang'an was originally Tu. Because he is good at guiding and persuading people to chant Buddhism. The man city cuts off the flesh, and the Jing Shuzhi enters the temple with a knife. I'm not willing to kill. The guide instructs the west to return to the pure land and make a vow to go to the high tree to chant Buddha. He fell into a tree and died. People see that the Buddha leads the heavenly child out of the top door (the heavenly child is the one who knows God). Vernacular: in the Tang Dynasty, Chang'an was originally a butcher. As master Shandao preached in Chang'an, he urged people to believe in cause and effect, change evil into good, and recite Buddhism to survive in the West. Gradually, every family stopped eating meat and recited Buddhism. Seeing that the meat on the stall was becoming more and more difficult to sell, the butcher of the Jing family felt puzzled. After inquiring about it, he knew that the people who came to the city had been persuaded by a monk named Shandao to become vegetarian one after another, and he felt resentful He rushed to the temple to kill master Shandao. The master of good guidance knew that the other side's fate was mature. He mercifully enlightened the butcher and urged him to recite Buddhism and go to the Western Pure Land. The master pointed to the western sky with his power, and the pure land of bliss appeared in the sky. The butcher was deeply disgusted. He immediately vowed to give up his life and die. So he climbed up a tree beside the temple and sang the Buddha with his hands together. At that time, all the onlookers saw Amitabha's coming to guide them, and the butcher's divine consciousness came out of the top door and followed the Buddha to the West. In Buddhist language, it means to stop doing evil and achieve good results. Later, it became a common saying to persuade people to change their bad habits and follow the good ones. For example, in the notes of Yuewei thatched cottage written by Ji Yun of the Qing Dynasty, "the Buddha's Dharma is vast, and people are allowed to repent. All evil deeds should be eliminated. Put down the butcher's knife and become a Buddha. Don't you hear that? " It turns out that this proverb has been widely quoted in "denglu" of Zen in Song Dynasty. At first, volume two and five of the biography of lanterns in Jingde said, "if you throw down the sword, you will prove the fruit of a Luo Han." In "xuzhuandenglu" and "wudenghuiyuan", it was changed into "Yang xiatu Dao, become a Buddha on the spot." The meaning has been upgraded. In fact, the source of "lay down the butcher's knife and become a Buddha on the spot" can be traced back to the translation of Nirvana Sutra · Buddhist practice by Beiliang: "BOLUO's state-owned butcher, named Guange, kills limitless sheep every day. When he saw Sariputra, he received eight commandments, one day and one night. Because of this reason, he will be the son of Pishan, the northern heavenly king The first commandment of "eight commandments" is "no killing". Buddhism believes that killing is one of the greatest evils that deserve the retribution of hell. To lay down the butcher's knife means not to kill, and it also means not to create all evil deeds. If we do not create all kinds of evil karma, we can get all kinds of blessings, and then get rid of reincarnation until we become Buddhists. Zen is fond of talking about becoming a Buddha on the ground, which is related to Huineng's Dharma of epiphany. "Li Di" is spoken in Tang and Song dynasties. It is said immediately and at present. In modern times, there are also articles used, such as Lu Xun's zhunfengyuetan: "in ancient times, although there were people who put down the butcher's knife and became Buddhists, there were also people who put down the official seal and prayed to Buddhists, and finally put down the rosary beads and became officials. This kind of thing really can't be widely believed in the world." (Li Mingquan) from: [source of the proverb Buddha (edited by Chinese Buddhist Culture Research Institute)]
become a Buddha immediately
Zhao Xuantan Bodhisattva holds an iron mace. He is powerful and brave. He is a general. His portraits are often hung on both sides in front of the Taoist temples in Yunhe, and stand side by side with Hua Guang Bodhisattva. Huaguang Bodhisattva, also known as Lingguan Marshal Ma and Sanyan Lingguang, is one of the four Taoist Dharma protectors. In many temples, Zhao Xuantan's Bodhisattva is riding on the back of a tiger, holding an iron mace high in his right hand and pulling a tiger's mane in his left hand, which makes him more powerful. There are many Buddhist temples in Bihu and Songyang. According to legend, the Bodhisattva ascended to heaven and became a Buddha in an old monk's nunnery in Dayuan township of Yunhe. The monk's nunnery is located between xiangguliao natural village and fangshanling natural village. The existing flat ground is the old nunnery base. Here, the localization of Yunhe "put down the butcher's knife and become a Buddha." My story. a long time ago, there was a vicious local official named Zhao Xuantan, who was responsible for collecting money and food from the local government. He was vicious. When he came to a family, he had to kill chickens for him to eat. Otherwise, he had to collect more money and food, and add up his fists and feet. The people were very angry with him. One day, he came to Qiaotou village of Dayuan Township and went into a family. He asked to kill chickens for him to eat, but the family had only one hen with a litter of chickens. He thought the hens could not eat, so he had to give up. So the family began to cook bamboo shoots for him in a small stove. Just as the bamboo shoots were in the pot, suddenly the hen flew up to the stove and knocked over the pot. Zhao Xuantan couldn't eat bamboo shoots, and the hen was burned to a lot of chicken feathers. Zhao Xuantan was very puzzled that there was a fire on the stove, and the hen dared to risk her life to knock over the pot. She felt something strange about it, so she asked the master where the bamboo shoots came from. The master took him to the bamboo forest where the bamboo shoots were dug and found the place where the bamboo shoots came out. He saw an Agkistrodon acutus (the most poisonous snake in the local area) coiled in the original place. He immediately burst into tears, knelt to the sky and sighed: "if the sky wants to kill me, how can you save me?" It turned out that God intended to kill him. He sent the Agkistrodon to bite the bamboo shoots and spray special venom. But the hen, regardless of the past, was merciful and selfless, and saved his life. Since then, he resigned as a money and grain officer, determined to escape and cultivate his mind. He came to a small nunnery located between xiangguliao village and fangshanling village. There was an old monk in this nunnery. He was very poor and strict with his disciples. It was stipulated that it took seven days to cook a meal and only one meal in seven days. In this way, Zhao Xuantan spent (37) 21 years with his master. He strictly abided by the rules and did a lot of good things for the surrounding villagers. One morning, it was the day of cooking again. The fog was thick in the mountains. As there was no fire for many days, we had to borrow the fire from fangshanling village. When they came to fangshanling village, because they hadn't eaten for many days, the villagers saw that master Zhao Xuantan was weak. They gave him a glutinous rice and lent him the kindling to go back to the nunnery. But he first thought that the old monk had not eaten for many days and was about to starve to death, so he quickly returned. When he was near the nunnery, he suddenly saw a tiger coming. People say that the Buddha is not afraid of tigers. If so, he calmly said to the tiger, "beast, if you eat, I will open my mouth. When you give the food to the master, I will get into your mouth." The tiger shook his head and said, "beast, if you are my mount, you will fall down. When you give me your meal, you will come to ride." Immediately, the tiger fell down and nodded. Master Zhao Xuantan quickly gave the glutinous rice to the master and made a fire. He came to the tiger and rode on it. All of a sudden, the fog rose, the light was shining, the tiger soared into the sky, and then disappeared. His master came to the door, facing the sky: Amitabha! Finally you become a Buddha. Since then, in order to commemorate master Zhao Xuantan, the villagers have set up small temples everywhere. The Buddha statues are all with maces or riding tigers, and they are named as Zhao Xuantan Bodhisattva at the head of Chuzhou bridge. It is: all evils do not study the chicken, good heart water flow, seven days a food escape empty door, riding a tiger Buddha for a long time. Zhao Xuantan, also known as Zhao Gongming, has several records in history, including Taoist classics and novels. 1. It was first seen in the Jin Dynasty, when it was the God of supervising ghosts. Jin Ganbao's "Soushenji" says: "God takes three generals, Zhao Gongming and Zhong Shiji, and each of them takes people from the ghosts.". According to Tao Qian of Jin Dynasty's SouShen Houji: "Zhao Xuantan, a native of Qin Dynasty, got his way from Zhongnanshan.". He is also one of the five God of plague. "Xiechang period" has: "emperor of heaven
