Li Guangting was born in lintingkou, Baodi, Tianjin. He won the central election in 1795, and later served as the Secretary of the cabinet. Later, he went to Huangzhou, Hubei Province as the magistrate. He inherits the family studies, works ceaselessly, and has a lot of works, among which the most academic value is his "Xiang Yan Jie Yi" written in the last years of Daoguang.
Character achievement
Li Guangting claimed that "Xiang Yan Jie Yi" is a work of "recalling the ballads and proverbs of his hometown". "Jieyi" means to smile. The magistrate writer uses a lot of humorous slang to express things, which is vivid and popular.
Xiangyan Jieyi was published in 1865, when the name of Li Guangting was not marked in the book. However, it provides a valuable reference for later generations to study the history of Qing Dynasty, especially to explore the historical features and regional folk customs of Tianjin. Later, it was the writer Zhou Zuoren who based his research on the old poems of puyuangan and found out that the author of Xiangyan Jieyi was Li Guangting. In 1982, Zhonghua Book Company published a point edition of the book.
Life of the characters
In 1795, Li Guangting was a magistrate of Huangzhou, Hubei Province. After becoming an official, he taught books in Beijing and died in Beijing when he was over 80 years old. After Li Guangting was elected to the Central Committee of the cabinet and the governor of Huangzhou in Hubei Province, Li Guangting enjoyed a reputation for helping people build water conservancy. He not only took the imperial examination himself, but also devoted himself to educating future generations. When teaching his nephew, he arranges the teaching order according to the difficulty of classics and history, adopts heuristic and inductive teaching methods, and quotes popular proverbs to prove it. He talks about the general meaning rather than explaining the chapters and sentences, so his nephew and grandchildren can get the essence of classics and history. In addition, he was diligent in learning and good at thinking, and achieved a lot in the imperial examination. Among his nephews, six of them won the imperial examination, eight of them won the imperial examination, and the poor ones were still too students. He is good at poetry and prose, and has a lot of works, including four kinds of poetry anthologies; he also has a lot of research on ancient coins of Dingyi, and published four volumes of monograph Jijin Zhicun in Xianfeng Period. Among Li Guangting's works, the most valuable one is his "Xiang Yan Jie Yi", which introduces the local customs of Baodi.
