The whole book takes the harmonic sound symbols as the outline, and belongs to 18 Ancient Rhymes according to the sound. All the words derived from the same phonetic symbol are linked together in order. Under each word, the text of Shuowen is explained first, and the ancient notes of Qunshu are cited as evidence, which is called Shuowen; the extended meaning of subdeclarative words and the borrowed meaning due to the loan of words are called Tongxun; finally, the rhyme used in Ancient Rhymes is cited to prove the ancient sound, where the same rhyme is called ancient rhyme, and the adjacent rhyme is called transliteration, to clarify the word sound, which is called fixed sound. The main part of these three parts is general training, which is helpful to the development and transformation of word meaning.

Historical records
Zhu Junsheng, a native of Wuxian County, was born in Fengqi. In the 13th year, he received Xu's Shuowen and became familiar with it as soon as he read it. From Qian Daxin's tour, Qian saw something strange and said, "the biography of Yibo will be in Ziyi." In the 23rd year of Jiaqing, the whole family was trained by Yi county. In the first year of Xianfeng, he intercepted the county magistrate into the capital and submitted his works Shuowen Tongxun Dingsheng, Gujin yunzhun, Cambodian rhyme and shuoya, a total of 40 volumes. Wenzong took a look at it, praised it, and awarded the title of doctor of Guozijian. He was transferred to Yangzhou as a professor of Fu Xue. Eight years, death, seventy-one years.
Zhu Junsheng's works are very extensive. He doesn't seek knowledge from the world. He is also a long-time pusher and knows the number of images. In Erya, Taisui is in Yin. Tui Daxin says that the time is when the measured year star is in Hai, and that Taisui is in Yin. When the year star coincides, it is Taisui. In the Qin and Han Dynasties, in the year of Jiayin, the star of the year is ugly, and the year of Taisui should be in the son. In the first year of the early Tang Dynasty, the imperial edict of the Han Dynasty was called "shetige". Because of the name of sixty years, it was listed as a second time, and could not exceed one hour, so it was still called "shetige". Therefore, later generations took Yin and Mao as Taisui, and took shitige as Suiyin. In fact, it is said in Er Ya that year Yang and year Yin are not the same as later generations. He wrote ten volumes of Zuozhuan, three volumes of Zuozhuan Xiaolu, one volume of xiaxiaozheng buzhuan and one volume of Lisao Buzhu.
