Pratt & Whitney was founded in 1925. In its early stage, it began to produce 9-cylinder air-cooled star piston engine. Its product r-1340 in the 1930s produced 34966 sets. By the end of World War II, Pratt & Whitney had become the largest piston engine manufacturer in the United States.
