Xu Mengji, the son of Xu Qiushan, a member of the Hanlin and Zhejiang School of Qin in the Yuan Dynasty, was a native of xiaoshanzhong. He was a professor of Changshu from the imperial court, and later a professor of Siming. His family moved to the vicinity of rihu (today's yujiaxiang and yunshijie), so Xu's family officially became a native of Ningbo. Xu Mengji has a family tradition. He once compiled "Qin Yu Za Yan" and wrote "the Enlightenment of playing Qin" in the form of seven rhythms. He summed up the unique playing methods of Zhejiang School in a concise and comprehensive way and became a valuable material for later generations to study the performance characteristics of this school.
