Xu Zongliang (1828-1904) was named HuiFu and shucen. He is a writer of Tongcheng School in Qing Dynasty. His father, Xu Fengyu, served as magistrate of Huangping County in Guizhou Province, governor of Huangzhou County in Hubei Province, was killed after fighting with the Taiping army.
Zong Liang seldom took the post of commander-in-chief, but he didn't become an official. He joined Hu Linyi, Li Xuyi and Li Hongzhang's shogunate and made friends with Gongqing through articles. Zhang Yuzhao of Wuchang and Wu Zhifu of Tongcheng all attached great importance to it. In 1887, Xu Zongliang, as an aide of the frontier general Gong boring, went to Heilongjiang Province to inspect the border, to understand the situation of the province's being invaded by Tsarist Russia when part of the territory bordering the tsarist Russia Empire, and to analyze the reasons why China and tsarist Russia were weak and strong, and to put forward the methods of self-sufficiency and self-improvement. It took three years to write six volumes of a brief account of Heilongjiang. Detailed description of landscape customs, political advantages and disadvantages, discussion must be attached to things, things must be true. In the thirtieth year of Guangxu, Japan and Russia went to war, and tsarist Russia was defeated. Their rights in the three eastern provinces were ceded to Japan. Such an outcome was foreseen by Xu Zongliang in a brief account of Heilongjiang. Dai Mingshi, a fellow scholar, quoted the year titles of Fu, Kang and GUI in his collection of Nanshan. After the "Nanshan Ji" case, it became one of the crimes of the Qing court to put Dai Shi to death. Xu Zongliang quoted Emperor Gaozong of the Qing Dynasty to criticize the "Tongjian Ji Lan", which also took the three kings of Fu, Kang and GUI as the basis of the end of Ming Dynasty, and criticized Dai Mingshi for his injustice. Xu Zongliang also corrected the collected works of Mr. Qian Xu compiled by Dai Junheng, and wrote biography of Mr. Dai and preface to the collection of Nanshan, which was later included in the complete collection of ancient writings of Mr. Dai Nanshan. His works include "notes of shansizhai poems" and "records of returning to Lu".
