Zhang Xi, whose name is fengxiao, was born in Wucheng, beizhou (today's Gucheng County, Hebei Province). He was the son of Zhang Wencong and the younger brother of Zhang Jian. When Wu Zetian was a minister of Fengge, he worked with Fengge luantaiping.

His younger brother Xi was the Minister of Fengge and the Minister of luantai in Fengge. First of all, Li Qiao, his elder sister and son, knew the political affairs and worshipped the officials.
