Profile
Postdoctoral education of medical family
Zhang Cheng was born in a medical family in Jinan, Shandong Province. When he was in high school, it was the time when he labeled the post-80s as rebellious. Influenced by his grandparents and parents who were engaged in medicine, Zhang Cheng gradually became interested in medicine. In 1999, he was admitted to the Medical College of Shandong University to study clinical medicine.
After five years of University, Zhang Cheng studied hard and laid a good foundation for his future professional research. He once recalled that it was hard for him to study medicine as an undergraduate. He often studied in the evening and went to the street lamp to study. However, solid basic skills and solid knowledge accumulation can lay a solid foundation for future scientific research. Zhang Cheng is one of those students who pay close attention to flexible learning. For example, when memorizing English words, he always creates his own methods and tricks.
After graduating from the University, Zhang Cheng went on to study for a master's degree and a doctor's degree in Shandong University. From 2006 to 2007, Zhang Cheng studied in the laboratory of vascular biology of Baylor Medical College in the United States, and became a doctoral student jointly trained by China and the United States. He studied under the tenure Professor Wang Xingli of Baylor medical college.
Under the cultivation and guidance of Professor Wang Xingli, Zhang Cheng assiduously studied the problems of cardiovascular disease and ushered in a small outbreak of academic research. In a short period of five years, Zhang Cheng published 23 SCI high-level papers, among which 5 were the first author. On November 15, 2006, ten months after going to the United States, Zhang Cheng was invited to give a speech at the annual meeting of the American Heart Association in Chicago, and was highly praised by international peers.
In the United States, he devoted himself to research, but he didn't care about the difficulties and maladjustment of living in a foreign land. Zhang Cheng once said in an interview: "I remember that I just went to Houston and lived in a house that looked good and had many Chinese students living in. Not long after that, I was bitten by fleas on my legs. A year later, I moved to another house, where there were no fleas, but there were all cockroaches. I got up at two or three o'clock in the evening, and there were one or two hundred cockroaches in the kitchen 。” "Although it's a little bitter, I don't feel sad because it's a very common thing that many international students have experienced. Now think about it, it has become an unforgettable memory. "
After returning to China, Zhang Cheng continued to engage in basic and clinical research on as lesions. During this period, he published many high-level SCI papers, among which the papers published in the Journal of the American Academy of Sciences were awarded the most influential international academic papers in China in 2011.
In 2010, Zhang Cheng went to the United States again to conduct postdoctoral research in the University of Oklahoma School of medicine, engaged in basic research on the regulation of cardiovascular disease under oxidative stress.
The experience of studying abroad in the United States broadened Zhang Cheng's research path. Zhang Cheng recalled: "in terms of scientific research, studying abroad has really helped me a lot, including the establishment and broadening of scientific research thinking and the determination of scientific research direction. Some new ideas are not the same as those I formed when I was in University."
Postdoctoral research has enabled Zhang Cheng to have a more in-depth understanding of scientific research. His research results were read out at the academic conference of the American Heart Association on invitation, which has received widespread international attention, and also made China's young face appear in the world authoritative academic field.
A young researcher promoted out of the ordinary
In 2011, 31 year old Zhang Cheng was promoted to a researcher of Shandong University due to her outstanding achievements and became the youngest senior teacher of Shandong University.
After returning home, facing many gaps in the field of basic research of heart disease at home and abroad, Zhang Cheng made up his mind to fill these gaps with in-depth research. Therefore, he spared no effort to carry out a number of studies in combination with clinical and experimental studies.
"Dr. Zhang Cheng has received good training in China and the United States. He is an outstanding applicant and a promising researcher," the expert of young researchers award of American Heart Association pointed out in the evaluation opinions.
Innovation makes medical star
74 original papers, many awards and honors, which is not easy to count in the field of medicine. Zhang Cheng believes that when climbing the peak of science, in addition to painstakingly looking up materials in the library and doing research in the laboratory, we should also have innovative thinking and methods.
Zhang Cheng said that in doing research, if there is a gap in a field, we can start to design the framework, because it is this blank point that can avoid the bottleneck of research as far as possible. Innovation is the key to Zhang Cheng's research and the basic point of his thesis writing. He once said in an interview: "I think a thesis is very important in the design of a thesis. When we pay attention to something that others have not found, I see it and its significance is very significant, so I will go all out to seize it and do it."
Zhang Cheng believes that innovation is a kind of ability. There are two key points: one is to see more, learn more, and see more what others do and publish; the other is to think more about the training of innovative thinking. Zhang Cheng also stressed that the key to the undergraduate stage is to lay a good foundation, especially for medical undergraduates, all kinds of basic knowledge must be firmly mastered, which can be used as a foundation for accumulation and development, and pay attention to the combination and transformation of basic medicine and clinical medicine.
In the face of so many achievements and honors, Zhang Cheng believes that this has become history, and what can be done in the future is more important.
