Zhang Yilin
Zhang Yilin (1868-1943), a political figure of the Republic of China. It is also known as Zhang Yilu, with the name of Zhongren, civil servant, Gongfu No.1, Jiangdong Adou, Dahuan Jushi, etc. Jiangsu Wu county (now Suzhou) people.
Profile
In 1885, he was a teacher in a private school. He organized the Su society with industrialist Zhang Jian, and joined Yuan Shikai, Cheng Dequan, etc. After the founding of the Republic of China, he successively served as the director of the Confidential Bureau of Yuan Shikai's political affairs hall, the chief Education officer of the cabinet, the Secretary General of the presidential palace and other high-ranking officials; Yuan Shikai instigated the monarchy, and he returned to Suzhou to live in seclusion. He enjoyed reading historical books and had a great reputation in the society. At that time, people respected him as "zhonglao". In 1932, he, together with Li Gengen, Chen Shiyi, Jin Songcen and others, initiated the establishment of the Chinese Sinology Association and promoted him as its president. Later, he lived in Suzhou with similar interests to Li Genyuan, a well-known official and scholar in Yunnan Province. He also served as a senior official in the Beiyang Government in Beijing. Therefore, he had close contacts and was respected by people at home. He is known as "the second elder of Wu".. After the September 18th Incident, he devoted himself to national salvation. In July and August 1937, Japanese imperialism successively created the Lugouqiao Incident on July 7 and the Songhu incident on August 13, and launched a comprehensive war of aggression against China. The aggressive ambition and barbaric acts of the Japanese aggressors aroused the great indignation of the Chinese people. Patriotic people all over the country, regardless of men, women, old and young, and occupations, participated in the Anti Japanese and national salvation struggle in different ways. Among them, the "Lao Tzu army" initiated by Suzhou patriotic old man Zhang Yilin and Li Gengen attracted people's attention and spread for a time. He was elected a member of the National Political Council in 1938. He died in Chongqing in 1943. Yahao collected books. In his early years, he collected books from Xu Keqin, his old home in Haining. When he was in Beijing, he successively purchased and collected over 10000 volumes of famous writers' anthologies and local chronicles, which were respectively stored in the "ancient red plum Pavilion" in Beijing and Wu County. He was enthusiastic about the reform of Chinese characters and advocated the phoneticization of Chinese characters. When he was the director general of education, he founded a phonetic alphabet learning institute in Beijing and asked the national government to use the new Latin characters to eliminate the illiteracy of the whole country.

His works include the collection of modern military affairs, the series of talks on state affairs in the past 50 years, the collection of xintaiping room, the notes of ancient Hongmei Pavilion, and other collections of ancient Hongmei Pavilion.
