Gan Jianbang (1660-1716), named Shuzhang, is a native of Xingzi County.
In the 17th year of Kangxi (1678), he was a disciple of doctor. Tang Laihe, a famous scholar at that time, was the lecturer of Bailudong Academy. There were many scholars. Jianbang and his father gante learned from them, and their articles were highly praised by Tang. In the 26th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign (1687), he was raised in the countryside and returned after failing the examination in the next year. He traveled between Fujian and Chu, and devoted himself to ancient poetry. In thirty-nine years, he was a Jinshi, governor of Jiangxi Province, and Zhang Zhidong was employed as the head of Bailudong Academy. Build a nation, set strict learning rules, teach students in accordance with their aptitude, and have no tiredness all day long. He constantly pointed out the gains and losses of politics and education in the past dynasties, in order to expand the talents of students, from more than 300 scholars. In 1709, Wuyang County, Henan Province, was flooded. At that time, Jianbang, the magistrate of Wuyang County, sent millet for relief without asking for help. At that time, his subordinates advised him to ask for help before giving relief. Jianbang resolutely said, "people's life and death depend on their breath. I'd rather be sent than follow the rules." At the same time, the exile was appeased and Da'an was established. Wuquan Academy in the county seat was abandoned as a martial arts arena due to disrepair. Jianbang built two corridors in Xinyu, expanded their scale and increased the number of houses. All the expenses were saved from the clothes and food of the servants and horses, not from the people. Thousands of volumes of books were purchased for scholars to read. In his spare time, he came to the academy and encouraged the scholars with the same moral character, which greatly changed the style of scholars. Later, he died in Beijing. Tao Qian, a poetics scholar, wrote on Xijiang School of poetry, advocating that Tao Yuanming be the first ancestor of Jiangxi School of poetry. He is the author of 16 volumes of Hushan poetry.
