Cui Jiayan (1111-1191), whose name is Xifan, is called Zixu and Zixu Taoist. Others call him "immortal Cui.". The army of Nankang was from Jianchang (now Yongxiu County, Jiangxi Province). He was a doctor and Taoist in the Southern Song Dynasty. During the reign of Chunxi (1174-1189) of the Southern Song Dynasty, Zhu Xi served as the "Zhinan Kangjun" and Cui Jiayan established a Taoist temple in Xiyuan mountain. He wrote three volumes of Zixu maijue (also known as maijue, Siyan maijue, maijue of Cui Zhenren, maijue of Dongyuan, juyao of fangmai, etc.), three volumes of zhuguangcheng's yuhanjing, and four original treatises of Zixu Zhenren.
Cui Jiayan and Zixu maijue
People all know that Li Shizhen wrote compendium of Materia Medica, but they often don't know another classic of pulse science of traditional Chinese medicine, Linhu pulse science, which was written by Li Shizhen in 1564. With vivid language and vivid metaphor, the book analyzes and identifies 27 kinds of pulse conditions, and compiles a rhyme. This book is an upgraded version of Cui Jiayan's Zixu maijue. This pulse book is one of the classic works of TCM pulse science. Before him, traditional Chinese medicine basically relied on Wang Shuhe's pulse classic and Zixu pulse formula to learn and master pulse science. according to the records, Zhu Xi and Cui Jiayan often communicated with each other, often asked Cui about the skill of keeping in good health and helping the world, and spoke highly of his medical skill. In addition to Zhu Xi, Cui Jiayan's medical deeds are rarely seen in other people's works, so we don't see more specific medical cases of his skillful recovery. His disciple, famous doctor Liu Kai, also wrote a lot of medical theories. In 1330, his apprentice Zhang daozhong compiled Cui Jiayan's medical theories into this book, which was later reviewed by "old man Dongyuan" of the Yuan Dynasty and famous doctor Li Gao. Tao Zongyi wrote in his book "records of stopping cultivation" that "in the song Chunxi period, Cui Zixu of Nankang concealed the emperor Jiayan. He used the book of songs to describe the ups and downs of the six difficulties and the number of the nine difficulties, so as to unify the seven points and eight Li points, and the total number of diseases.". this book is 3000 words in total, written in accordance with four words and one sentence, rhymed narration, catchy and easy to understand. It successfully summarizes and expresses the complex and profound pulse knowledge in a concise and clear form, which is convenient for medical learners to recite, understand and master, and easy to promote. It has become an important blueprint for later generations to learn and teach pulse method, and has been repeatedly used for reference by other pulse works. The summary of pulse theory in this book plays an important role in the inheritance and development of TCM pulse theory. This book of pulse science has been included in Sikuquanshu, tunlu medical series and other books. Modern diagnostics of traditional Chinese medicine has more or less to comment on his classic work of pulse science. In Ming Dynasty, Li Shizhen's Linhu pulse study and Qing Dynasty famous doctor Li Yanshi's (Li Yunjian, Li Qishu's) analysis of pulse study all imitated Cui Zhenren's writing style, and Li Shizhen attached almost all of them to Linhu pulse study.
