Zhou shouchang (1814-1884) was a poet of Qing Dynasty. He was born in Changsha, Hunan Province. He was named Yingfu, Xingnong, Yousheng and Zian. In the 25th year of Daoguang's reign, he became a Jinshi, a cabinet bachelor and Minister of rites. At the beginning of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, he was dismissed from office and lived in the capital. He took writing as his business, and his poems, books and paintings all bear a heavy reputation. The scenery is very beautiful, inspiring and rich in collection. His works include Si Yi Tang Ji and Han Shu Zhu Xiao bu.

Profile

Zhou shouchangsheng had a special talent. He was always happy when he was a baby and could write poems when he was young. He and his brother Zhou Shouqi studied in the orange garden in the north of the city. Eighteen years, Buxian students. When his father died in the government, he took an old servant with him to prostrate for thousands of miles. In the 24th year of Daoguang (1844), zhongshuntian county held an examination in Nanyuan. In the 25th year of Daoguang (1845), he was promoted to be a scholar and an official. When the Taiping Army entered Hunan, the imperial envoy saishang'a and the chief soldier Hechun did not fight. He was impeached by Shangshu, and the people at that time obeyed him. The following year, the Taiping army occupied Nanjing and divided its forces into northern expedition. He wrote a statement of his strategy and was ordered to follow the command to defend the capital. Xuanding's mother worries about returning home. During Tongzhi period, Zhou shouchang successively served as the chief editor of Shilu library, the Bachelor of Shiyue, the Bachelor of Shidu, and the left Shilang of the Department of household affairs. At the beginning of Guangxu's term, he was a Bachelor of cabinet and a member of the Department of accounts. Guangxu four years (1878), to foot disease resignation. So he did not come out any more, but took writing as a matter of fact. He was 71 years old and died in 1884.

Personal achievement

Zhou shouchang was diligent in learning, writing, calligraphy and painting in his whole life, and he was especially good at historiography. After reading all kinds of anthologies since Han and Wei dynasties, I like Ban Gu's books, proofread and write them. Every book has no spare paper. He is rigorous and meticulous in his studies. For example, there are 50 volumes of annotation, collation and supplement of the former Han Dynasty, and 17 drafts have been changed. Li Yuyuan, the Prime Minister of Korea, asked him to write jiawushiji, while min Hanshan, the Minister of Korea, asked him to revise his poetry collection. In addition to the former Hanshu annotation and emendation, there are 8 volumes of the latter Hanshu annotation and emendation, 4 volumes of the Three Kingdoms annotation and verification, 10 volumes of siyitang anthology and 20 volumes of siyitang poetry anthology.
