Theoretical point of view
People say that a composition is difficult at the beginning and difficult at the end. How to start, how to end, what are the requirements? Here are some witticisms.
Phoenix head and leopard tail
In Yuan Dynasty, Qiao Mengfu put forward "six word formula" for composition: Fengtou, Zhudu and Baowei. Ingenious use of metaphor shows that the beginning of the article should be as beautiful and moving as a Phoenix, the middle as plump and full as a pig's belly, and the end as forceful as a leopard's tail. It is true that the beginning of the composition is flat and light, lacking attraction, and not good; the ending is slow and loose, which can not give people a strong impression, and it is not desirable. Of course, how to start and end depends on the writer's careful arrangement.
Firecracker chime
Xie Zhen of the Ming Dynasty used two other metaphors for the beginning and end of the article: the beginning of the sentence should be like a firecracker, and the sudden sound is easy to penetrate; the end should be like a bell, and the voiceless sound is more than enough. It means that the beginning of the article should be like setting off firecrackers, clear and loud, and run through the whole article; the end should be like hitting a bronze bell, clear and graceful. In fact, it requires the beginning to be extraordinary and shocking, and the ending to be thought-provoking. In comparison, this requirement seems to be more specific than the "phoenix head" and "leopard tail" above.
Mountain horse
Some people hold that the beginning of an article should be "straight to the point" and there is no need to beat around the bush. This is the conclusion of Ouyang Xiu's writing method. Ouyang Xiu wrote the story of the drunken man Pavilion, which was changed again and again. At the beginning, there were dozens of words, and at the end, it only started with five words: "all mountains around Chuzhou". Later generations use "to get to the point" to describe this method of beginning.
Another person asked the end of the article to be "like cutting off a galloping horse", which means that the article is vast and unstoppable. It suddenly stops at the end, which enhances the momentum of the article and shows more expressive effect.
