Huang Ren (1866-1913) is a modern writer and critic. It was originally named Zhenyuan and Zhenyuan, but later it became more famous. It was named Xianhan. It was also named Muhan and Muan. Huang Wen was born in a poor family and studied under Qin Hongwen when he was young.

Guangxu seven years (1881) scholar, after the rural examination repeatedly failed. He used to be a county official in Changshu. He read all kinds of books. He studied poems, novels, law, medicine and Buddhist scriptures. All the classics and history, poetry, Fangji, temperament, dunjia belong to can know its meaning.

In the 26th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu (1900), he and Pang Shubai organized the "three thousand sword spirit literary society" in Suzhou.

The next year, he was the first Chinese literature teacher in Soochow University. He talked about Shicheng in the late Ming Dynasty, and admired Chunyao (tao'an), Zongxi (Lizhou), Daozhou (Shizhai) and Zhou Xing (Jiuyan) who were the people with the surname of Huang at the end of the Ming Dynasty. He changed their name to "Huang Ren" and called their study "Yitao Mengli, worshipping Shi, farming and smoking room". Zhang Taiyan came to the school to give lectures and often followed. In the first year of Xuantong (1909), Nanshe was founded in Suzhou, and Huang Ren joined with members of "3000 Jianqi wenshe".

Three years ago, he and Wang Junqing founded the Sinology Rotary club in Shanghai, and published a collection of poems and essays banned by the Qing government, which is a lot of valuable and secret works in China.

He also compiled a new dictionary of general encyclopedia, and compiled 200 volumes of Guochao Wenhui (Qing Wenhui) with Shen cuifen, which "recorded more than 1000 articles, including more than 10000 articles, regardless of name or style". Some works banned by the Qing government.

He has translated dumb travel, revenge, Queen of silver mountain, prison and other books.

After the recovery of Nanjing, Sun Yat Sen returned home. Huang Ren was excited to take a bus to Nanjing. When he arrived at Suzhou railway station, he suddenly had a foot attack and came back crying. Soon, because of his anger at the state affairs, he made a great deal of trouble and laughed and scolded impermanence all day long. His family sent him to qimenwai lunatic asylum in Suzhou for treatment. He died of a mania on June 16 of the lunar calendar in 1913. He was 48 years old. Before his death, he tore up all the rare books and manuscripts he had kept in his life. As a result, there were few manuscripts left in his collection. Among the more than 200000 ancient books in Changshu City Library, there were no books in Huang Moshe's collection. This is a great loss for the academic community.

After his death, he was buried in Hupu village of Changshu.

Literary achievements

The yellow people are knowledgeable, versatile and have peculiar behaviors. Huang Ren's collection of poems, Shi Tao Li Yan Ge Shi, has not been published and is now in the collection of Changshu cultural relics administration committee. Moshe Ci was printed by Zhang Hong, most of which were written by Gong Zizhen, Zhang Huiyan and Jiang Dunfu. His novel theory and works on the history of novels have certain significance. The criticism of novel Lin Fa Kan CI despises the two tendencies of novel and apotheosis novel, and thinks that novel is only a kind of literature inclined to beauty. The novel Xiaohua thinks that the description of characters should not be mixed with the author's judgment. It should be like taking a picture in a mirror, and the readers should judge its beauty and ugliness by themselves. It also thinks that the author of the novel should read widely and know the world affairs widely. It is one of the earliest works with the nature of novel history in modern China. Among them, the bibliographic review of ancient novels was recorded in the notes of old stories of novels by Lu Xun. His "history of Chinese Literature" is the earliest work on the history of Chinese literature. If we think that literature is a part of beauty, but without truth and goodness, it will be biased and blasphemous; literature has the function of aesthetic appreciation and seeking honesty and goodness; the history of literature should study the origin of literature and the positive evolution of literature types, which can inspire people's patriotic feelings.

Huang Ren is the author of the history of Chinese literature, with 29 volumes and 1.7 million words. The book is divided into general and brief. Literature is divided into four parts. In his article Huang Ren, a progressive writer during the revolution of 1911, Qian Zhonglian commented that this book is the first unprecedented masterpiece in China's own literary history, and there has not been the same number of lost works so far. The book states that "from the language, the picture, the phonology and the writing, from the writing to the literature, from the epigraphy, the rhyme and the primary school art, from the beginning of the writing to the flourishing era and the Huali era, there is nothing unknown."
