Wei Ruxian (1216-1245) was a famous scholar in the Southern Song Dynasty.
In 1091, the xuansun of Wei Zhi lived in lengjiabang, Tongli Town, Wujiang, Jiangsu Province. When he was young, his father died early and his family was in decline. Mother and son lived on a few acres of thin farmland. Wei Ruxian was gifted and intelligent. He was enraged to study when he was a child. He entered Songling school through the children's examination. He ranked first in every examination and was elected at the age of 21. In the spring of the fourth year of Chunyou (1244), under the sponsorship of Lu, a businessman from the tomb of Chen in Kunshan, he scraped up enough money to participate in the imperial examination held in Lin'an (Hangzhou). He won the Jinshi and became the number one scholar in the special performance. He was the only number one scholar in the history of Wujiang. At that time, Li Chun, the magistrate of Wujiang, set up the number one memorial archway in the east of Songling town school palace and lengjiabang in Tongli to show his commendation. In 1370, kongkezhong, the magistrate of Wujiang, established the number one scholar's Square in the east of Xuegong. In the old days, the road from Fuguan bridge in Tongli town to lengjiabang was named "Zhuangyuan Street". In the fifth year of Chunyou, Wei Ruxian died of illness at the age of 30. The plaque of "Zhuangyuan hall" and the handwritten inscriptions of "zhisiqiju" and "shidezuoqiu" as well as the woodcut copies of his personal works disappeared later. Note 1. According to Mo Zhiyun, "the Song Dynasty made zhengzuo, a special performance, which is the first prize of kezhengzuo, Liu Bingyan, and the second prize of special performance." Note 2. In the miscellaneous records of the characters in Tongli Zhi written by Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty: "there were so-called special performers in Song Dynasty. In Kaibao, those who read Jinshi in the Ministry of rites and those who finished the 15th imperial examination were granted bachelor's degree, which is called Enke. In Chunyou, there was Wei Ruxian in Tongli of the city, who was named the number one scholar. People don't know the meaning of the special performance. It's said that it's the vice announcer, but it's not. "
