Wei Dazhen was born in Pingyue, Guizhou Province. He was born at the end of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1722 A.D.) and died in the middle of the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1765 A.D.). His father, Wei Wan, was a Macao Tongzhi in Guangzhou. He traveled with his father to Lingnan, where he lived all his life. In his spare time, he made a deliberate effort to write poems. He met the famous scholar hang Shijun and sang with him. Most of his poems are engraved in his collection of Lingnan.
