Ma Shaobo
Ma Shaobo (March 1918 ~ November 29, 2009), formerly known as Ma Zhiyuan, pseudonym Su Yang, Hongshi, etc. President of China Art Language Research Association, vice president of China Opera Society, vice president of China Peking opera art foundation, deputy director of the Steering Committee for revitalizing Peking Opera of the Ministry of culture, Honorary Professor of China Academy of opera, director of the Committee of history of Peking Opera and Encyclopedia of Peking Opera of China, and vice president of Peking opera academy of China. He is an outstanding writer and theorist of literature and art in China, and an early pioneer of Chinese opera reform.

”Ma Shaobo, China's outstanding playwright and drama theorist, died in Beijing at 1:36 a.m. on November 29, 2009 at the age of 92. His family held a grand mourning ceremony for him in Babaoshan and is now buried in Changping.
Life
In 1931, he edited tianwai weekly and began to improve his literary career. He took part in the Anti Japanese war in 1937 and served as Secretary General of the fifth brigade headquarters of Shandong column of the Eighth Route Army and President of Jiaodong Cultural Association. In 1949, he was transferred to Beijing as Secretary General of the all China Opera Reform Commission, member of the Party group of the Ministry of culture, Secretary of the general Party branch of the Chinese Academy of opera, vice president and head of the Chinese Peking Opera Troupe, Secretary of the Party committee and vice president of the Chinese Peking opera academy, national member of the China Federation of literary and art circles, and invited Professor of the Chinese Department of Furen University. In 1955, he served as the head of China Youth Art Troupe, led the delegation to participate in the fifth World Youth Peace and friendship Festival, and continuously led the delegation to visit Europe, Asia and Australia. It has made important contributions to international cultural exchanges. In 1957, he was awarded the medal for meritorious service by the International Dance Association and is famous for his calligraphy and painting. He does not choose weapons for his writing and has many creative talents. He won the first national drama theory award in 1984. In 1997, during the celebration of the 65th anniversary of Ma Shaobo's literary and artistic career held in Beijing, many national leaders wrote praises and more than 700 scholars and celebrities attended the meeting to congratulate him. Li Ruihuan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, wrote an inscription: "with heart and blood, we will carry forward national culture, be wise and courageous, and persist in inheritance and innovation. He gave a very high evaluation. he donated more than 10000 works, manuscripts and many collectibles to the country free of charge, which are kept and displayed by his hometown Yantai Museum. He has set up the exhibition room of Ma Shaobo's literary and artistic works, which was completed and opened in 1998. on October 12, 2009, Ma Shaobo was awarded the "lifelong achievement award" by the Chinese Dramatists Association.
