In the 23rd year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, Gu Huang was appointed president of Daliang academy by Liu Shutang, governor of Henan Province. At that time, Gu Huang contacted several leading officials to donate 1200 liang of silver and 300 liang of self donation to buy new books for Daliang academy, and compiled the general catalogue of books in Daliang academy himself. After Gu Huang died in 1927, his descendants divided some of his poems, letters, accounts of his family, and documents drafted for the Ministry of household into three volumes and included them in the collection of Mr. Gu Yuxi. The book is prefaced by Chen kuilong, Gu Huang's good friend and former governor of Henan Province.
