In 1619, Gu Hengbo was born in Shangyuan county (now Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province). In 1641, Gu Hengbo married Gong Dingzi and changed his name to Xu Shanzhi. In 1644, Li Zicheng conquered the capital. Dingzi and Gu Hengbo threw themselves into the well. They were not dead. They were captured and tortured. Anecdotes of characters
It is said that Huang Daozhou, a neo Confucianist at that time (later martyred in Jiangxi Province during the anti Qing period), boasted that "there are prostitutes in his eyes, but no prostitutes in his heart". When he was drunk, all the students in Donglin asked Hengbo to go to the bed to see if he really had the ability of Liu Xiahui. I'm afraid that her way of going her own way and not caring about the eyes of the world is an important reason why she and Gong Dingzi, a gifted scholar of Jiangzuo, decided to fly together. However, her controversial personality is also the evil result of this personality to some extent. Gu Hengbo has both talent and appearance. Known as the "No.1 Nanqu opera", it is naturally favored by celebrities. As a result, meilou is so popular that there are almost no empty days for banquets. It is often called "meilou guest" by those who invite meilou banquets, which seems to be a symbol of elegance. Many cultural banquets in Jiangnan are also regretful for Gu Meisheng's absence.
Character evaluation
Overall evaluation
Among the eight beauties of Qinhuai, Gu Hengbo is the most prominent one, who was granted the title of "Lady Yipin". According to Yu Huai's miscellaneous notes on Banqiao in the Qing Dynasty, Gu Hengbo's "Zhuang Yan is beautiful and elegant, and his demeanor is extraordinary.". He is good at poetry and painting, especially at painting orchids, and has a bold and uninhibited personality.
Comments on celebrities
Gong Dingzi wrote a poem: "the waist is jealous, the Yang's hair is jealous of the clouds, and the soul breaking warbler speaks at night; the Qin tower should be mistaken by the east wind, and Luo Fu was not sent to marry the envoy." The famous historian, Mr. Meng Sen, who tried to write a textual research on Madame Hengbo, greatly disagreed with Gong Gu's character. He thought that both the husband and wife were snobbish and selfish. Once known as "Li Xian, Ai Shi, Xia Nei Jun Yi", is Mrs. Hengbo really so unbearable?
