Liu Zhi? ~26 years), word Boxian, Changcheng (now Hebei Julu County) people. He was one of the 28 generals in Yuntai.
At the end of Wang Mang's reign, he took charge of Changcheng. Later, he surrendered to Liu Xiu and helped to surrender Liu Yang. After a long war, he calmed Hebei and helped Liu Xiu establish the Eastern Han Dynasty. After Liu Xiu became emperor, he was appointed Marquis of Changcheng and captured Luoyang with the army. In 26 A.D., he was killed when he pacified the rebellion in Mi County.

Liu Zhi, a native of Changcheng County in youbeiping County, is a powerful local family. In the last years of Wang Mang, the world was in chaos. Liu Zhi, his younger brother Liu Xi and cousin Liu Xin gathered thousands of clan guests to support themselves.
In October of 23 A.D. (the first year of reform), Liu Xuan, the emperor of reform, sent Liu Xiu to the north to cross the Yellow River as a great Sima to comfort the counties in Hebei Province. After Wang Lang's incident, Hebei was in chaos. Liu Zhi, Liu Xi and Liu Xin took the opportunity to lead thousands of people to occupy the county seat of Changcheng. In January of 24 A.D. (the second year of the reform), Liu Zhi heard that Liu Xiu had come back from Jixian County, and immediately opened the gate to meet Liu Xiu. Liu Xiu appointed Liu Zhi as the general of Xiaoqi, Liu Xi and Liu Xin as partial generals, and made them all marquis.
Surrender to Liu Yang
After Liu Xiu went south, he was supported by local officials such as Ren Guang, the governor of Xindu (now Jizhou Town, Hebei Province), and PI Tong, the governor of Hecheng (now Jinzhou City, Hebei Province). Liu Zhi, Geng Chun and others also led their clansmen and children to occupy the county and followed Liu Xiu's orders. With the help of Geng Kuang, the governor of Shanggu, and Peng Chong, the governor of Yuyang, Youzhou Tuqi's strength gradually increased. Prepare to attack Handan and wipe out Wang Lang at one stroke. In order to relieve the worries, Liu Xiu decided to send Liu Zhi to recruit Liu Yang, the king of Zhending who occupied Shijiazhuang.
At that time, Liu Yang, the king of Zhending, had more than 100000 troops, which was a force that could not be ignored in Hebei. Under Liu Zhi's persuasion, Liu Yang decided to surrender to Liu Xiu. Therefore, Liu Xiu got to Zhending and married Guo Shengtong, Liu Yang's niece. Through the marriage, the relationship between the two sides quickly got closer. Liu Xiu and Liu Zhi, together with Liu Yang and other generals, put wine in Guo's home to celebrate, and Liu Yang personally built a banquet to boost the fun. In May of 24 A.D. (the second year of the reform), Liu Zhi followed Liu Xiu to attack Handan and kill Wang Lang. Since then, Liu Zhi continued to follow Liu Xiu and began his campaign to pacify Hebei.
Pacify Hebei
After Wang Lang was eliminated, there were still dozens of peasant armies in Hebei, which became the main obstacle for Liu Xiu to occupy Hebei.
In the autumn of 24 A.D. (the second year of the reform), Liu Zhi and Liu Xiu first attacked hundreds of thousands of bronze horse troops in PI (now Shulu County, Hebei Province), Qingyang (now Qinghe County, Hebei Province) and Boping (now Chiping County, Shandong Province). After a stalemate for more than a month, he defeated the bronze horse army. Then in Puyang (now Wanxian County, Hebei Province), they fought with the Allied forces of Tongma, Gaohu and chonglian, and each peasant army was defeated. Later, Liu Zhi and Liu Xiu's army defeated more than 100000 volunteers, such as Chimei bieshuai, Qingdu, Datong, Shangjiang, Tieti, Youlai and WuFan, who gathered in the area of shegouju (now Wuzhi City, Henan Province).
In the first month of 24 A.D. (the third year of the reform), after the Han army defeated the main force of the peasant army, Liu Xiu returned to Jixian, but sent Liu Zhi and Geng Yan, Wu Han, Jing Dan, Gaiyan, Zhu you, PI Tong, Geng Chun, Jian Tan, Cen Peng, Ji Zun, Wang Ba, Chen Jun, Ma Wu to pursue you Lai, Da gun, Wu fan and other peasant troops to Ludong and Pinggu, where they fought again and beheaded more than 13000 people So he pursued Wuzhong (now Jixian County in Tianjin) and Tuyin (now Fengrun city in Hebei Province) in youbeiping County, and returned to junmi (now Zunhua City in Hebei Province).
In June of 25 A.D. (the first year of Jianwu), Liu Xiu became emperor. After he became emperor, he decided to capture Luoyang first, in order to make preparations for flattening the heroes and unifying the world.
In July of 25 A.D. (the first year of Jianwu), Liu Xiu sent Geng Yan and Chen juntun to wushejin (now Gongxian County, Henan Province), and Wu Han was appointed as the big Sima, commanding eleven generals, including Liu Zhi, Jian Tan, cen Peng, Wang Liang, Zhu you, Wan Xiu, Jia Fu, Hou Jin, Feng Yi, Ji Zun and Wang Ba, to besiege Luoyang. At that time, Zhu Yu, the great Sima of Liu Xuan, the reformer emperor, was guarding Luoyang. After several months of siege, Zhu Yu surrendered under the persuasion of Cen Peng.
In 26 A.D. (the second year of Jianwu), Liu Xiu conferred Liu Zhi the title of Marquis of Changcheng.
Killed in battle
After Liu Xiu became emperor, there were many generals in the southern regime who did not surrender, including Wang yinzun. In 26 A.D. (the second year of Jianwu), Liu Xiuling commanded Jinwu and Jia Fu to attack Yin Zun, who led the cavalry commander Yin Zhi and the valiant general Liu Zhi to the south of wushejin. After more than a month, Yin Zun surrendered and all the land he occupied was pacified.
In the same year, Liu Zhi died in the war when he calmed down the remnant soldiers in Mi County (now Mi County in Henan Province), and became the earliest general in Yuntai.
Relative members
After Liu Zhi's death, Liu Xiu led Liu Zhi's army with Liu Xidai, Liu Zhi's younger brother, and became a valiant general and Marquis of guanjin. When Liu Xi died, he took Liu Zhi's cousin Liu Xin as a valiant general and granted him the title of marquis Fuyang. Liu Xi and Liu Xin, who followed the expedition, were all handed down to the descendants.
After Liu Zhi's death, his son Liu Xiang took the throne and was later granted the title of Marquis of Dongwuyang. After his death, his son Liu Shu took the throne.
In the 15th year of Yongping (A.D. 72), because of being involved with Liu YingMou, the king of Chu, the feudal state was abolished.

During the reign of emperor Yongping of the Han and Ming Dynasties, Emperor Ming recalled that he had been a great hero of the Eastern Han Dynasty with his father. He ordered 28 portraits of great heroes to be painted on Yuntai in the south palace of Luoyang, and Liu Zhi ranked 28th.

Liu Zhi and his party came to Zhending. After meeting Liu Yang, Liu Zhi lobbied him vigorously. Liu Yang said that he would marry his niece Guo Shengtong to Liu Xiu. The two families got married, and Liu Zhi successfully completed the task of uniting Liu Yang.
