Liu Yan, whose name is Jingsi, was born in Qiantang (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang).

He lived in seclusion in the West Lake. In the early Ming Dynasty, huixiu ritual music book was renewed by Fang Yu, who was awarded the Guangdong ship commander.
