Character experience
He was born in Lanxi, Zhejiang Province in 1930.
In 1937, the family moved to Sichuan.
In 1942, Wang Yuan graduated from primary school and was admitted to the second national middle school in Hechuan county.
In 1946, Wang Yuan came back to Nanjing with his family and went to the Affiliated Middle School of social education (later renamed as No.6 Middle School of Nanjing City) to study as a sophomore in senior high school.
In 1948, Wang Yuan graduated from high school and was admitted to the Mathematics Department of Zhejiang National Yingshi University.
In 1950, Wang Yuan transferred to Zhejiang University because of the preliminary plan of University adjustment.
In 1952, Wang Yuan graduated from Zhejiang University. He was recommended by Chen Jiangong and Su Buqing to the Institute of mathematics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. A year later, he was assigned to the number theory group of the Institute to study under Mr. Hua Luogeng.
From 1952 to 1978, Wang Yuan worked in the Institute of mathematics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and successively served as assistant researcher and associate researcher.
In 1966, the "Cultural Revolution" interrupted Wang Yuan's work, and he was wrongly criticized and treated unfairly.
In 1978, Wang Yuan was promoted to a research fellow at the Institute of mathematics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In 1980, Wang Yuan was elected member of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Main achievements
Achievements in scientific research
From the 1950s to the early 1960s, Wang Yuan first applied the sieve method to the study of Goldbach conjecture in China, and proved the proposition {3,4}, and then proved {2,3} in 1957, which was the first time that Chinese scholars leaped to the leading position in the world in this research field. In 1973, he cooperated with Hua Luogeng to prove the general theorem of constructing uniform distribution pointwise intersection of high-dimensional unit cube with independent unit system of Cyclotomic domain, which is called "Hua Wang method" by international academic circles. In the late 1970s, the application of Wang Yuan's logarithm theory in approximate analysis was systematically summarized. In the 1980s, Wang Yuan extended Schmidt's theorem to any algebraic number field in the analysis of Diophantine, and made advanced work in the system of Diophantine inequalities.

personnel training
Wang Yuan has trained a group of mathematics talents, such as Ruan Weidong, Zhang Shouwu (< / I > < I > Princeton University < / I > < I > tenured professor).
Wang Yuan cooperated with Hua Luogeng to complete the lecture of mathematical analysis "Introduction to higher mathematics".
On the afternoon of April 2, 2004, Wang Yuan was invited to give a lecture in Chongqing Baxian middle school. Wang Yuan gave guidance to teachers and students on "how to cultivate interest in mathematics", "how to learn mathematics well", "how to treat the Olympic Games" and other issues. Wang Yuan expressed the inner interest of mathematics in popular language. Finally, Academician Wang Yuan said: "the most important task for middle school students is to lay a good foundation for learning. Only when we have laid a good foundation can we do more and more important research. "
