Period of democratic revolution
In 1906, he returned from Japan and actively participated in the "Chinese rejuvenation Association" organized by Yang Zhenhong, a Kunming native. In 1920, he attached great importance to the cultural education of Yunnan Province, supported Tang Jiyao to establish Donglu University (now Yunnan University) and participated in the preparation of Donglu University. In 1922, he was appointed as the honorary president of Donglu University and served on the board of directors of the University for three consecutive terms. In 1923, the representatives of sun Chuanfang, Duan Qirui and Zhang zuolin met with the representatives of various provinces in Shanghai. During the Great Revolution
In March 1925, he was appointed as the director of education of the ruling government. At that time, the trend of study led by Beijing Women's normal university was on the rise, which aroused strong opposition from teachers and students of various schools in Beijing. It is recorded in Lu Xun's book of two places: on April 10, Xu Guangping wrote to Lu Xun about the headmaster of Beijing Women's Normal University, saying, "can you get a good headmaster in your hand?" On April 22, Lu Xun wrote back: "in my opinion, Wang Jiuling is much better. The Ministry has heard nothing about the headmaster. He came here to rectify his education, or he should have gone against all the new laws of the past (he is very dissatisfied with today's style of study) At the end of April, Zhang Shizhao resigned and returned to Yunnan. In 1927, he was appointed member of Yunnan Provincial Council.

During the war of Liberation
In his later years, he retired from politics, devoted himself to Buddhist studies, and had a close relationship with master Xuyun. In 1945, he donated all his Buddhist scriptures to Huating temple. Although he left his hometown earlier, he was always concerned about the development of his hometown. In 1946, the Gongguo suspension bridge was completed with the efforts of many parties. In 1949, he served as the director of Yunnan People's Peace Promotion Association, contributing to the peaceful liberation of Yunnan.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, he donated his collection of cultural relics and ancient books to the people's Government in 1950 and participated in the first session of the CPPCC Yunnan Provincial Committee as a religious figure.
On September 17, 1951, he died of cerebral hemorrhage in Kunming at the age of 71.
