Yan Yi, 1921-2003, formerly known as Zhang Hongzhi. He is from Liangshan, Shandong Province. He joined the vanguard of Chinese national liberation in 1937. In 1938, he joined the tenth detachment of Shandong fan Zhuxian department. He joined the Communist Party of China in the same year.
He once served as company instructor of Zhuxian column of the Eighth Route Army, special commissioner of 129th division detachment, chief of propaganda and education section of brigade of Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan military region, director of Political Department of Central Plains field corps, and deputy political commissar of the second field corps. He took part in the hundred regiment war and the battles of Handan, Dabie Mountains, Huaihai, crossing the Yangtze River and southwest China. After 1951, he served as political commissar of the Communist Youth League. He graduated from the Department of politics of the military academy in 1957. After that, he successively served as a teacher of higher military academy, vice political commissar and commissar of naval base, vice political commissar of naval fleet, Secretary of Discipline Inspection Commission of CPC Beihai fleet. He was awarded the three-level Medal of independence and freedom and the three-level Medal of liberation. He died in Beijing on December 24, 2003 at the age of 82.
