In 1895, when he took part in the examination in Beijing, he took part in the bus petition activity initiated by Kang Youwei. Later, he served in the patrol department and the Legislative Yuan of the cabinet. After the Republic of China, he served as the Secretary of the first court of the Pingzheng yuan of the Beijing government. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, he was appointed as a librarian of the Central Research Institute of literature and history in December 1951. He died in 1956.
