He was a Confucian scholar and CI poet in Qing Dynasty. Nianzu was a teacher of PI Xirui, a master of Confucian classics. He had profound skills in Confucian classics and Ci, especially in CI. Zeng congkang and Liang took part in the reform movement of 1898 and presided over the hucui newspaper.

Personal experience

(1) Guangxu 11 years (1885) in the deputy. After the Sino Japanese War of 1894-1895, feeling that the Qing Dynasty was corrupt and incompetent, he took part in the Kang and Liang reforms and advocated the reform to make it strong. (2) he was the editor in chief and the main writer in Shanghai. When Liang Qichao left Hunan, he recommended Nianzu to act as the lecturer of the current affairs school. However, he failed in the reform movement of 1898 and returned to his hometown. (3) soon after, he went to Jinling to study Buddhism under Yang Wenhui, and he was deeply immersed in canons. (4) later, he and his younger brother went to Japan to study for more than 10 years, studying Sanskrit and Tantric Buddhism. Later he died in Japan.

Personal Elegy

On his deathbed, there is a self elegiac couplet saying: "I'm so ashamed. I'll try to look back on my past ambition, and I'll only mourn. If there is he Jianbai, I have to clean up the mess and prepare to start again.".

Relevant evaluation

Ye gongchuo's "guangqizhongci" commented on Japan: "language contains philosophy, poetry mixed with immortal heart." He wrote many works in Japan, but his residence was destroyed by fire.
