Lin Gao
Lin Gao, born in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province on January 2, 1929, is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an expert in water conservancy and seismic engineering, and a professor of Dalian University of technology.
Lin Gao graduated from the Civil Engineering Department of Tsinghua University in 1951, graduated from the water energy utilization research class of Dalian Institute of technology in 1954, and was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1997.
Lin Gao has been engaged in teaching and research in the field of hydraulic structure engineering for a long time. He has made important contributions to the development of the discipline in the aspects of dam anti-seismic theory and model experiment technology, underground structure anti-seismic analysis and dynamic fracture technology of concrete structure. He has played an important role in solving the key technologies of practical engineering problems such as dams, harbors and nuclear power plants.

In 1951, he graduated from the Department of civil engineering, Tsinghua University, majoring in structural engineering and water conservancy engineering, and taught in Dalian Institute of technology in the same year. From 1951 to 1954, he studied in the water energy utilization research class of Harbin Institute of technology and Dalian Institute of technology, and obtained an excellent diploma. In August 1954, Lin Gao continued to teach after graduating from the graduate class. In 1958, he was the deputy director of the teaching and research section of Dalian University of technology. In 1962, he was an associate professor of Dalian University of technology. In 1964, he was appointed as the deputy director of the Hydraulic Engineering Research Office of Dalian University of technology; in October, Lin Gao attended the National Youth Federation conference as a "National Youth socialist construction activist". In June 1978, Lin Gao accepted the task of seismic safety assessment of Fengman dam. In 1980, he was a professor of Dalian University of technology. since 1981, he has been the doctoral supervisor of hydraulic structure engineering. He joined the Communist Party of China on July 20, 1984. In 1997, he was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Lin Gao has been engaged in teaching and research in the field of hydraulic structure engineering for a long time. He has made important contributions to the development of the discipline in the aspects of dam seismic theory and model experimental technology, seismic analysis of underground structures, and theoretical research on dynamic fracture technology of concrete structures. Representative works include "arch beam modal method" for dynamic and static analysis of complex shells such as arch dams, calculation method of dynamic interaction between dam and foundation, simulation technology of dynamic model failure test for seismic safety evaluation of dam and nuclear power plant offshore engineering structure, influence of loading history on multiaxial strength and damage characteristics of concrete materials, etc. since 1950s, I have been engaged in deep research on dam and other engineering buildings, vibration fluctuation, dynamic fracture of concrete structure, seismic design method of engineering buildings, etc. It plays an important role in solving the key technologies of practical engineering problems such as dams, seaports and nuclear power plants. Lin Gao has established cooperative research and academic exchanges with professors from Tokyo University, Wanshan University and New York State University. He has been responsible for the research and test of seismic safety evaluation for more than ten large concrete dams, earth rock dams, harbor wharf projects and nuclear power plant construction projects in China, and participated in the preparation of the code for seismic design of hydraulic structures and code for seismic design of nuclear power plants in China.
