He graduated from the Department of philosophy of Wuhan University in 1982, received a master's degree in philosophy from Wuhan University in 1988, a master's degree in sociology from McGill University in 1992, and a doctor's degree in sociology from York University in 1999. Professor Lin Zeng studied and worked in Canada and the United States for 25 years. In May 2013, he returned to his alma mater to work as the director of the Department of sociology. His research direction is sociology research method and sociology of education. Professor Lin Zeng worked for the National Bureau of statistics and the Department of human resources in Canada to study the national strategy for college students' employment.
