Lin Gan
Lin Gan, Professor, Institute of Mongolian history, Inner Mongolia University, was born in March 1916 in Xinhui, Guangdong Province. At present, he is also the director of China Mongolian history society, the director of China Central Asia Culture Research Association, the consultant of China ethnic history society, and the honorary president of Inner Mongolia Institute of socialism. In 1985, he was elected a member of the fifth Inner Mongolia CPPCC; in 1988, he was elected a deputy to the Seventh National People's Congress; in the same year, he was elected a member of the Sixth Central Committee of the China Democratic League. It is now included in the biography of international Mongolians edited by the International Association of Mongolians and the biography of world turkists edited by the International Relations Department of the Turkish Turkic culture, language and History Research Committee.
Personal life
Born in Shanghai in March 1916. Professor, Institute of Mongolian history, Inner Mongolia University. Both primary and secondary schools are in British schools in Shanghai. At the beginning of the Anti Japanese War, he joined the army and fought in northern Shanxi. From 1941 to 1944, he studied in Law Department of Daxia University (Guiyang). In 1948, he taught in Tianjin Yude law college. In the spring of 1949, he was admitted to the second Department of history and geography of North China University and began to receive revolutionary education of the party. Later, he was assigned to the History Department of Hebei Normal University as a lecturer. In 1957, he was transferred to the Institute of history, Chinese Academy of Sciences to study the history of ancient northern Chinese nationalities. In 1961, he was transferred to Inner Mongolia to support the border areas and still studied the history of ancient northern nationalities. In 1979, he was transferred to the Institute of Mongolian history of our university to undertake scientific research and teaching work. He retired in 1990 and was reemployed by the University. He continued to undertake scientific research tasks and participated in the work of guiding doctoral candidates until 1995.

Professor Lin is enthusiastic about the cause of national unity. He is honored as "contemporary Zhaojun" by people's daily, workers' daily and Inner Mongolia Daily. In 1990, he was awarded the honorary certificate of "advanced individual of national unity and progress" by the National People's Commission and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region People's Commission respectively. In the same year, he was awarded the certificate of "making outstanding contributions and granting special allowances" by the State Council. Professor Lin retired with honor in 1990.
Main works
Professor Lin has published 50 academic papers and 12 monographs, totaling more than 4 million words. Among them, "the general history of Xiongnu" (published by people's Publishing House in 1986), "the history of Turks" (published by Inner Mongolia People's Publishing House in 1988), "the history of Donghu" (published by Inner Mongolia People's Publishing House in 1989) three representative works completed the huge academic "project" of the three major systems of ancient northern nationalities, and some also filled the gaps in the study of national history. Some of his works have been translated into Mongolian and published, while others have been reprinted by Taiwan's Muduo publishing house. In 1989, the general history of Xiongnu was listed as an excellent research achievement by the State Education Commission, and in 1995, it was awarded the first prize of "the first outstanding research achievement of Humanities and Social Sciences" by the State Education Commission; in 1989, the history of Turk was awarded the first prize of the third outstanding research achievement of philosophy and social sciences by Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and participated in the fourth outstanding social science book publishing house of 15 provinces and autonomous regions in the north in the same year "Donghu history" won the second prize of the fifth national "China Book Award" in 1991. "New theory on the history of ancient northern ethnic groups in China" (Inner Mongolia People's publishing house, 1993) won the "five one project" award of 1993 National Spiritual Civilization Construction issued by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee. "The history of Inner Mongolia national unity" won the "five one project" award of national spiritual civilization construction in 1995.
In his early years, Professor Lin Gan's name has been listed in the dictionary of contemporary Chinese high-level scientific and technological talents, biography of international Mongolians and biography of world Turks. In October 1990, at the special invitation of the World Federation of Hungarians and the Hungarian Society for the study of ancient history, Professor Lin went to Budapest to attend the international academic seminar. At the seminar, he delivered a long speech on the origin of Hungarian nationality, and put forward and demonstrated the argument that "the Huns who migrated from China to the West were part of the ancestors of Hungarians", which was well received by scholars from all countries, especially Hungary The appreciation of scholars. On November 17, 1999, an interview with Professor Lin was broadcast in the "news time" column of Hungarian State Central Television. On February 17, 2000 (the Fifth Edition), China's Inner Mongolia Daily reported Professor Lin's speech in Hungary under the headline of "shocking words". Outlook Oriental weekly, published overseas on June 16, 2005, with the title of "deciphering the life experience of foreign Xiongnu with science", reported the public expression of former Hungarian prime minister and famous geographer Kant Paul: "I am proud to admit that we are a nation from Asia.".
Professor Lin Gan is a cheerful, approachable, simple and rigorous scholar. Although he is over 90 years old, he still keeps on writing. He loves Inner Mongolia and his major. His motto is: "the setting sun is infinitely good, not afraid of near dusk.".
