Life of the characters
On August 29, 1910, the Treaty of merger between Japan and South Korea came into effect, and the last emperor of the Korean Empire, chunzong Li Di, abdicated, declaring the end of the Korean Dynasty. The fall of the Korean Empire also changed Li Di from "emperor" to "King li of Changde Palace" and Li Yin from "crown prince" to "Prince Wang".
At the time of chunzong's accession to the throne, his half brother, Prince Li Yin (born to Chunxian's imperial concubine Yan), who was also Li Jiu's father, was named the crown prince. In 1907, at the age of 11, Li Yin was taken to Japan to study. ITO Bowen became the "crown prince and grand master" and asked him to receive Japanese education. In 1918, Queen Fangzi (Li Fangzi), the daughter of the Japanese royal family, was chosen as the imperial concubine of Li Yin, and performed the royal ceremony on December 5 of the same year. Soon after his marriage, Fang Zi gave birth to a son named Li Jin, who died in the stone building hall of Deshou palace in 1922. In 1931, Fangzi had another son and was established as the son of King Li, named Li Jiu.
After Japan's defeat and surrender in 1945, the Japanese government no longer provided living expenses to the Li Yin family living in Japan; what's worse, the Japanese government thought they were not Japanese, and the newly established pro american Lee CHENGWAN government did not recognize them as Korean. In 1950, with the help of friends, Li Jiu went to the United States to study in the Department of architecture at MIT while working. In 1958, he married an American named Julia mallock (1928-2017). After her marriage, in addition to her original English name Julia mullock, she also named her Korean name Li zhuya. In 1963, Li Jiu and his blonde wife, together with their parents, returned to Korea and lived in Leshan Zhai of Changde palace. During the period when Li Jiu lived in his own country, he always seemed to be "acclimatized". He was always used or cheated when he wanted to do business, and he was called "Japanese devil" when he wanted to invest in running a school.
On March 20, 1973, Li Jiu became the president of Quanzhou Li's Datong convent (Quanzhou Li's Clan Association). After divorcing his wife in 1982, Li Jiu went to live in Japan; on July 16, 2005, due to a heart attack, Li Jiu died at Akasaka Prince Hotel in Japan. This is the old official residence of his father Li Yin and the place where Li Jiu was born 74 years ago. On July 24, 2005, Li Jiu's funeral was held at the former site of jingfugong palace in central Seoul, in accordance with the traditional royal etiquette; Li's Datong monastery in Quanzhou was Li Jiu's private posthumous address“

Family situation
Li Jiu has no children of his own. While living in leshanzhai, Li Jiu and his wife adopted an adopted daughter, Li Enshu (이은숙). On July 10, 2005, before his death, Li Jiu met with Li Huanyi (이환의), the chairman of Quanzhou Li's Datong convent, and agreed to establish Li Yuan, his nephew, as the successor. On July 22, 2005, Quanzhou Li's Datong convent decided to carry out Li Jiu's will, and Li Yuan was known as the "emperor's son" (황손).
However, Li Xi, Li Jiu's cousin and son of righteous Prince Li Yao, openly opposed the decision of Li's Datong convent in Quanzhou and questioned the effectiveness of adoption. He also declared that "it is meaningless to adopt an adopted son after death" and "Li Fangzi made a will to make me an heir". Li Haiyuan, Li Yuan's second daughter, also held a ceremony to ascend the throne on September 29, 2006, declaring herself emperor and "Queen".
Personal evaluation
In his miserable life, Li Jiu often said: "I'm just a person who happens to be Li Jiu. If there is an afterlife, I don't want to repeat this kind of identity and this kind of life."
